Fun bits of trivia on US ford heated windshields:
- The innovation originally came out on the mid-1970s Lincoln Mark IV. The implementation was a thin layer of gold alloy sandwiched in the glass. The layer would heat when a current was applied. Apparently, the system required a high current.
- in the mid-1980s Ford launched a modified version that used a different alloy. I think it may have been lower impedance (required less current).
- Supposedly, the European version (quick clear) isn’t currently legal in the United States as it’s actually an imbedded grid in the windshield and US regulations prohibit windshields that have anything that could obscure the driver’s vision.
