I have a ChargePoint Home Flex.
Check with your utility to see if they offer discounts/rebates on certain chargers.

One thing I ran into is I'm limited on how many amps I can run on my charger in the house. So might be worth checking with an electrician to see what the max charger you can fit is.

For most people this wouldn't be an issue. I just happen to live in a house built in the 70's and the decisions people made back then about how much electricty a house would need was, lets say, pretty short sighted.

I'm planning on the ChargePoint Home Flex or the Grizzl-e for the ability to adjust charging speed as needed. I'm also planning on installing a 14-50r outlet for it. Thus up to 40 amps would be fair game when needed but for normal use I'd just set to 30 amps to help ensure the mains doesn't have issues with the dryer, hot tub, and a couple A/C units in the summer!

It's important to note that the breaker you use is to protect the WIRING. But the amount of energy you draw can vary as long as you don't exceed your wiring/outlet and breakers max. For a 14-50R that's a 50 amp outlet, 50 amp breaker, and up to 40 amps constant current (80 percent).

If you think you'll be switching between 30A and 40A on regular basis, I'd recommend the ChargePoint over the Grizzl-E. You can change the amperage on the fly though the ChargePoint app, but you'd have to take the Grizzl-E apart and adjust dip switches to change it's amperage.

Once I heard the Ford connect chargers were recalled, I bought the grizzl-E classic 40.
Very happy with it. A decent upgrade from the 32 amp Ford Mobile Charger.

Oh man I didn't know the ford ones were recalled! I just ordered my mach e a week ago so I have time on the charger lol. Trying to learn about all of this is so overwhelming.

I honestly hadn't thought of switching amperage until this point. I do have a hot tub pulling electricity so maybe I would need to? Is that the only reason I would switch between 30 and 40?

The charger recall isn't worrisome from a safety perspective. Just disappointing in that the units were bricking themselves. It does put a check mark in the pro column for choosing plug in vs hardwired. If my CPHF has an issue I can just unplug it and return it. No need to deal with the house wiring.

Second the GrizzlE. Something to be said for a simple EVSE (although the manufacturer keeps saying from time to time they will release a smart wifi upgrade board.) Super affordable, but doesn't feel cheap. That said, see if your power company (or city, state etc) offers any rebates or deals on specific models - that can bring the price of the Juice box, Chargepoint etc down into the same neighborhood.

I would just set it to 40A and leave it there unless you run into issues.

I will be ordering two of the new 40 Amp Grizzl-E Smart Chargers as soon as they are back in stock. One regular Smart Grizzl-E and one Grizzl-E Avalanche edition Smart charger for my vacation/rental property in Wisconsin. They come in at a reasonable price point and will be able to leverage the 14-50 NEMA outlets that I already have installed. The one thing I am curious about is whether I will be able to get a tax credit for purchasing 1-2 of the Grizzl-E chargers when I have already taken a credit for the installation of the 14-50 NEMA. Guess that'll be a question for my accountant...
