Ordered my NACS adapter March 1. "Estimated Ship" date keeps being moved to later month after later month. Was hoping in March to at least have it for December holiday trips, but I guess not.

What is happening with these adapters that takes over 9 months to deliver? Sure; they're "free", but promising anything to a customer, even if "free", and never delivering the promise is crappy.

1. They’re built by Tesla in Buffalo, NY. They build other stuff there as well, adapters is not their primary focus atm at the Buffalo Gigafactory.

2. GM, Rivian, and KIA (iirc) are all in line with Ford. They can only build so many.

3. Ford ships when they receive a batch. They ship in the same order as the reservation was made. Unless you live in Canada, then you get to complain,

4. There was a recall by Tesla of many adapters shipped in June. They got to cut to the head of the line.

5. There are third party alternatives that are available now. If you need one, order it assp,. A2Z is shipping their orders out fast as I recall. Perhaps Lectron as well.

I’m in group 4. I guess it’s not that big of a deal on how dangerous the faulty adapters are as it’s been months. I’ll keep using it. Probably won’t even get rid of it.

You'd think maybe they would have someone working for them that knows something about supply chains and could give a semi-reasonable estimate of when they'd be available.

Well the CEO of the company manufacturing them promised Full Self Driving cars in 2015.

I guess Ford should have know his estimates are off by +/- 15-20 years.

We really don’t have a definitive answer as to just what the problem was with the Tesla branded adapters was. They could be bracketing a few adapters known to be defective in order to ensure all defective adapters are recalled, or they could have a real good idea of what was introduced, and when, to warrant a recall. Ultimately, it’s your decision whether or not to return the recalled adapter.

If only Ford had some business savvy people who could have written up some sort of supplier agreement that would hold the supplier accountable for meeting certain delivery deadlines...

And maybe some sort of people who could communicate the status of supplier deliverys and compare it their scheduled deliveries to make meaningful updates....

Ford could be issuing fines to the supplier all day….doesn’t get the adaptors they are not manufacturing made any faster.

I’m in the same boat. Waiting on a replacement. Fortunately, I don’t really need it. I used the defective one twice before they recalled it.
I didn’t know if it would even still work. Thanks for letting me know. Just in case I get in a jam.

Lectron has begun making NACS adapters for Ford which theoretically should bypass whatever manufacturing issue Tesla has been having.

Yup. They’re making some for Ford, and GM, and probably any other company that wants a second source. Oh, and don’t forget their retail customers. While the second source will certainly help, it won’t be a panacea. Ford still has 140,000 or so adapters to ship.
