What's the purpose of lock nuts?

To prevent people steeling your wheels?? Is that really a problem?

Noooo... Avoid the harbor freight torque wrenches. I had one. After about 6 months or so it stopped holding the correct torque value and was completely off. I don't trust them... I'd get a Craftsman or similar. That one's held up for years now.
I have no experience with torque wrenches...

But I do have experience with Harbor Freight. Simplest way to put it is, I'll only an item there I can't think of any possible way it might break and cause bodily harm. ;)

It can be a problem. Depends on where you park. One wheel nut has a special pattern that only the “ key “ will fit. To take wheel off you need the key. I guess I’m paranoid about this. Got them with Rewards Points so no cost to me.

yeah it's a hand tool so I don't worry about that kind of thing in this case.

the higher-priced tools are a lot better than the lower-priced. On the other hand, depending on how often you truly need it to work, that might be fine. It's cost/benefit - how often are you actually using the tool? if it's like once a year, then drifting or long-term breaking isn't really a big deal. I wouldn't use it as a professional mechanic or anything (unless again the higher-priced version).

Have you had wheels stolen in the past? Wheel locks have always seemed to me like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. But maybe I just haven't been parking in the right neighborhoods.
Like I said, I worry too much about things that will probably never happen but they were free with Rewards Points so why not. And, my neighbor had his wheels stolen from a car he had parked in the city overnight. Another neighbor had his brand new Camero stolen from a shopping center. I live in a place with very low crime but things do happen. I guess I’m more worried about Mustang Mach E haters keying our new cars or intentionally damaging them. BTW, I also got a First Aid kit and a Road Hazard kit for my new Mach E with Rewards Points. I purchased a set of four Michelin tires for my 2016 Fusion and got 30,000 Reward Points for that plus points for the 60,000 mile service. Using a Ford Rewards VISA and get points for everything we buy on it too. We’re running everything through card for awhile to build up points for anything I might want to get for the new car whenever it does come in. So far, we have received $300 cash back from card too and we’ve only had it a few months. We’re “non-revolvers” and pay off balance every month so we don’t incur any interest on card. When you do finally close on the car you get a bunch of Reward Points that can be used for accessories or what little maintenance the car needs as long as you use them before they expire.

Back in 2002 I had my VIN etched in glass on the Thunderbird and thinking back, that was over the line even for me!

I know two people who had their spare stolen from the back of their SUV. This was a real problem when scrap aluminum prices were high a few years ago.
Of course very few vehicles have full sized spares any more, and even fewer have them externally mounted.

I purchased wheel locks for the Mach E from Ford. What torque should I use to fasten them to the car? (one locking bolt per tire).
Where did you get the locks from? Is there a particular style/shape? Thanks.

From the Ford accessories store and ordered through my dealer’s parts department. I paid for them with my reward points I had so they didn’t cost me anything. Also got a first aid kit and road hazard kit with the points. The locks are listed with the Mach E accessories (They are used on other cars too).
