Alright, so one reason I bought the Mach-E is so I no longer have to go to the dirty gas station, but my wife and daughter didn't get the memo.

Tonight my wife says she needs a fill up to get to her brother's house and back home tomorrow. Mind you, we just went to his house on Saturday and I had to fill her SUV up then for $43. BTW, I think I've spent just a bit more energizing SMOKE. She indicated that she only had half a tank and I thought to myself what's the problem. Earlier in the day, she told me how "stupid people" were for running out to fill up their tanks because of the hacking of the pipeline. In my area, though, there are at least three stations completely out of gas. Well, I made the bad trade of dishes for gas.

When I get to my local grocery store which has a gas station in the parking lot, I find two lines of cars at least 10 deep on each side. This station has eight pumps and only four are working. After waiting a bit, I find myself in the number four spot. As I'm looking at the pumps, texting my friend about how awful this was, another car comes in from the street and pulls right behind one of the cars at the pump. He's approached by the next driver in the line and I can tell he's resistant even though she points to the line of cars. Someone that has just left the pump pulled over to confront him, as well as someone a couple of cars behind me. Obviously defiant, but did finally move.

When I get to the pump, I exchange pleasantries with my fellow pumper and laugh we laugh at the audacity of some people. I then remember that I have an EV and would have preferred to wash the dishes.

I've never found gas pumps to be particularly dirty as a rule. I'm buying my MME for a number of reasons.
Some of them:
  • I don't have to go anywhere to charge in my garage
  • I don't have to wait in line to charge in my garage
  • Reducing my carbon footprint
  • The Mach E looks cool

Those reasons are good enough for me! My Wife’s sister is driving down from the panhandle today, IF she can get gas!

Next time someone asks if there are enough places to charge the Mach E ask them how that gasoline pipeline is holding up.

I agree, I typically fill up in a gas station in a light commercial area surrounded by a residential area. Try to avoid sniffing the fumes but otherwise a clean property.

Anytime I hear someone complaining about how it takes 20-30 minutes to charge to 80% I remember Costco gas station lines and @KAustin's crazy scene.

It took a while but one of my British car club members was complaining about how you have to park at a charging station for hours, blah, blah..... Well, he finally got it. The light went on.

When he leaves home with a 1/4 tank, he has to stop and will typically fill up to make his trip and arive home with a 1/4 tank. To make this trip again he needs to again stop at a station.... repeat.....

When My MME comes, I'll leave my house with a full charge and finish my trip with a 1/4 charge and fill back up at home. I can make that trip every day for a year and never stop at a station because I always leave home with a full charge.

I wish the press would stop harping about 45 to 60 minute chargers in parking lots. They only come into play on a long trip. The VAST majority of users will charge at home.

Well I hate filling of a car with gas. I have hated it for years. It is not about the carbon footprint or being clean. I just hate going to a gas stations and filling up my car. While owning my mach e reduces how often I have to put gas into a car it does not remove it. My wife has not filled up her car in over a year now nor do I expect that to change. I on the other hand will put gas in her car about once ever 1.5 weeks and have been for a while. She does even noticed the price of gas any longer.
At least now I am not filling up both cars with gas any longer. I just have to take care of hers ever so often when it gets low.

To be fair though, EV charging lines can get a lot worse. Here's a horror story from 2015 Christmas: https://www.hybridcars.com/tesla-owners-experience-two-hour-delays-at-tejon-ranch-supercharger/

Tejon Ranch was the last supercharger before Los Angeles; Tesla owners had to wait 2 hours to get a charge. IIRC, there are now 24 stalls at Tejon Ranch (from 6 back in 2015).

This is not an issue for EV owners who charge at home. But it can be an incredibly frustrating experience during a road trip.

OMG! I had no idea any of this was happening. (Haven't been following the news since Thursday last week...)

As far as I know, fuel stations here in AZ are operating normally. Might change soon though. Anybody's guess if/when the same thing works its way Westward...

Didn't we just go through this with toilet paper?

We've become a nation of hoarders.

The Pipeline in question mostly affects the Southeast. For supply, anyway. Price ripples spread much wider.

Well, here in my Georgia neighborhood I am the envy of all my neighbors with my electric vehicle since there is about no gas in town to be had with the pipeline down. I joke with them and tell them they should buy an EV. Then I privately think to myself that the same thing could happen to the electrical grid if our country does not beef up and protect its infrastructure. Scary to think what would happen if all the power went out for several weeks. I remembered some books I read a few years ago about that.
