On the contrary, virtually everyone is paying ADM at the moment. Selling at MSRP is tte excrption now, not the rule.

Ordering and paying MSRP is the new ADM. Walking into a dealer for a stock car and not expecting ADM is non existent. Not to say it can't be done because we know it's out there, but it's less and less every day as the dealer lots sit empty.

The days of deals are behind us, will take oversupply to correct that.

So when one walks into a dealer and the dealer says MSRP, you now feel like you got a deal.

Crazy times, my paycheck does not = inflation.

I paid ADM because it was what the current market required. It was either pay ADM for a new car, or put a lot more money than that ADM in to repairs on my prior car. More money than that car was worth. I don't see used cars as a wise purchase right now.

I've always paid under MSRP in the past on new cars, or bought one year-old under 10k mile used cars. The car market is crazy right now. What people normally do does not apply unless you have a lot of patience.

I also took advantage of the current market to replace my wife's car a couple years earlier than planned. Had the luxury of time to order a car for her (no ADM) and sell her prior one at inflated used car prices. For those replacing existing cars, it's likely that what carmax/carvana/vroom will give for your used car will help offset the ADM you're paying.

I waited 14 months for my First Edition, and I was quite happy with it. When I found out that I could trade it in after 8 months, and get what I paid for it when the tax rebate was factored in, a $5K ADM for a new GT seemed reasonable. I avoided going through some recalls, my sales tax on the difference between trade-in and price of the GT was not a lot. I got the GT immediately with no long wait. I also got a car that many of the previous bugs had been resolved. Multiple dealers in the area were wanting $10k ADM and more. I don't regret it. Back in the old days, paying under MSRP was somewhat common. Those days are gone, at least for a while. YMMV ?ā€ā™‚

Iā€™m basically same situation. I paid $3500 ADM for my ā€˜21 GTPE, after selling my Mach E 4X for a profit, plus the $7500 tax credit x2.
Like you said, we also donā€™t have to deal with the windshield recall which seems dicey at the moment, have BlueCruise now, and donā€™t have to wait for a ā€˜22 thatā€™s more expensive anyway! I hate that I paid ADM but if you negotiate, they come down a bit on it.

The market is so insane right now that if you play your cards right you can come out ahead on a new car. Silly times.

You have that right! It's a sellers market now. I just put a deposit on a Honda Civic Si for my Grandson and the dealer insisted on us paying $3500 ADM in order to sell it and put a deposit down. If we wouldn't do it, somebody else would and snarf up the car. These cars are hard to come by because the demand for an Si is in a niche car market and they don't make that many. It was either pay the ADM or lose the car and wait for the dealer to get another allocation (who knows when) and hope it's an Si (and the color you wanted). Then they would want an ADM charge for that car as well.

We paid $2500 adm

1)Purchased an in stock GTPE. Had the options and color we wanted.

2)Didnt want to wait 6-12 months for a ordered car to come in.

3)Our fusion energi was worth way north that it should have been. Bought it in August of 2020 for 21k out the door. Drove it a year and half and put 10k miles on it. It had damage on the bumper from a hit and run, bumper needed to be replaced. Carvana gave us $24.5k

4)Bought the GTPE in December so weā€™re are able guarantee the tax credit and get quick turn around on it.

Iā€™m now know that buying a MME in stock will always command an ADM. I had no idea this was the case.

Iā€™m curious why people would pay X amount of dollars over suggested retail pricing for a car. Iā€™m in the NE US and no one pays over sticker. Granted, I am not in a rush for my order. If you are in a lease, itā€™s best to buy your current vehicle and sell it for a profit and just wait for the delivery. Someone should do a poll. It seems like yesterday that I ordered my car, but I am now 6 weeks in.
Report back in another 10 weeks when youā€™re order hasnā€™t been scheduled for production yet and everyone who is scheduled is getting put on chip holds. Oh and add in a 9 year old car with no warranty, looming interest rate increases, gas prices that have gone up over $1.00/gallon since you placed your order and Ford removing options off the 2022 models. Itā€™s worth the extra $39/month, especially since gas is costing me $100/month more than when I ordered.

Some people are willing to buy time.
I am not included in that group though. Maybe when I get older and closer to the grave then perhaps....

I ordered an MME back in October and had the expected 28+ weeks wait (based on the website). I kept checking Fords online inventory and happened to find the same exact car about an hour away.. I called the next day and confirmed availability - I spoke with the sales manager and he had it on the lot, ready to go... with a $5k markup.
I explained to him I had one on order, so I could easily wait it out, but if he was willing to drop it, I'd leave him a deposit on the phone and be there in a few hours. He said the best he could do was $1k. He was honest with me, he said that if I didn't take it for that price, someone would. I gave him a deposit over the phone and was there when they unlocked the doors the next day.

The best part was I had a trade in, I wanted them to give me a price on it after seeing it, but also had a few online places ready to go if I didn't get what I was hoping for. He matched the highest offer I had which more than made up for the $1K ADM. When I went in, he told me he had MULTIPLE calls about the car, including another dealership who offered to pay the $5K ADM.. but because I had left a deposit he was honoring it.

Dealers more often than not get a bad rap for their tactics, but I couldn't be happier with the deal I made - including the $1K markup, I still came out ahead. And if my next car is a Ford, this dealer will be the first place I go. I've already left them very positive reviews online, it was quite honestly the best and most stress-free car buying experience I've ever had.

(and not to mention, 2 weeks after I got my MME I received an email with a production date on my original order, 3/7/22.. a week later it was pushed to 3/14/22... add in 4-6 weeks for delivery and I'll have had my current MME for 4 months - I was paying $350/mo in case.. thats $1400 I'm no longer spending. (my electric bill went up $11 last month with my MME), so again, the ADM was worth it, I still saved not having to buy gas.

Not always. There are dealers who sell at MSRP as well as those who accept xplan. You are going to have to work to find them though.

Would never consider paying ADM, even if I had to wait over a year for vehicle. When I purchased ICE Mustangs , it was factory special order with 3 to 5 month wait. So waitibg for my Mach-E to come in does not matter how much time.

Its worth paying a couple grand ADM if you are going to miss out on more than that with federal tax credit.

It would be great if we could all be resolute in not paying exhorbinate ADM, so they cannot say what my dealer did when I turned down an almost identical option to what I ordered bc they wouldn't go below 5k which was 'why should we sell it for less when people will pay more. I was willing to do 2500 more bc that basically put the price in line with my ordered one given the price increase on the '22. I get the logic but just wish people would stop paying 5 and 10k over.

This is why government incentives make things more expensive. :(
