The only reason I ordered a mach e vs model y is because it has a cheaper base model and $7,500 tax cred. The model y is better in every other aspects.
That's not a particularly good start for a purchase you're going to have to live with for a fair number of years.

So, I’m getting a Mach E because it is better than a Y in every aspect but range and DCFC charging (for now). I guess we have different perspectives.

The base RWD is $43,995 less $7,500, $36,495 vs. the Model Y at $51,100.

That $14,000 difference is nothing to sneeze at.

But here is the interesting thing:

The lease on the Model Y for three years is $633 with sales tax rate of 8.625%, (my sales tax rate) total $688 a month.

The Ford option plan with The Federal Tax credit of $7,500, but not the incentive of $2,500 is $568 a month. The sales tax is on the purchase price, before the Tax Credit, $43,995 @8.625%, $3795 or $105 per month, total $673 a month.

So if opt to lease rather than buy, a Long Range AWD Model Y is only $15 a month more - but most important to you, you get the car you really want!

Something for you to think about!

yeah, it's also not true that the Y is better than the Mach-E "in every other aspects" (sic), as has been well worn on here, but for a TT making their first post on the board, it's to be expected.

Isn’t Tesla coming out with a “base” model Y some day, a RWD SR+ (More than 250m range of course).

take all the options lease back to that page. Don't hijack this one with it. That one is plenty.

I want to keep this car for a while and between the aluminum panels and reports of poor build and especially paint quality I don't think Tesla is a good option for me.

I do not disagree with you: In all my prior posts I always compare the Model Y to the Premium AWD LR.

However, on price alone, which seems to be the key criteria for MLuu510, I used the cheapest MME vs. the Model Y.

On a lease any version of the MME other than the Select SR RWD, will be more expensive than the Model Y.

Hope this clarifies.

Also, don't forget the 1,000 incentives and X-plan pricing that each person can get. which is about 1,700 more of a discount.
In New York I am not aware of any $1,000 incentives.

Not everyone is aware of the X Plan pricing.

That is why I did not include either.

Hope that clarifies.

sure is 1,000 and some areas 2,500 in incentives in NY area. Nope not everyone is aware of the x-plan and that is their fault. But it is still there and if an option is there then has to deduct as an option.

Some people don't know the buying power of a certain credit rating. Again that's on them.
Also the x plan and A plan your dealer should give you a certain amount of swag also with the purchase of your ford.

Hope that clarifies.

Thanks so much:

I thought you were referring to a $1,000 credit from Ford - not a general state credit for EV's.

Every state credit is different in amount and phase out threshold: NY, where I live, above $60,000 MSRP not including destination charges, drops to $500; In NJ, from postings, I believe $55,000 including destination charges the credit is eliminated. I think the phase out threshold for California is less - but I am not sure.

The reason I did not include the credit is that they are not unique to the MME, but apply to all EV's and in some states hybrids as well - subject to a phase out based on price.

Since the credit apply to all EV's, they would effectively "wash" reduce the price of other EV's, including Tesla, in the same amount that it reduced the price of the MME.

Unlike the Federal Tax credit that has phased out for some manufacturers the state credit continues unabated.

This should clarify why I did not include the state credit in my calculations.

Yes for a purchase, the Mach-E Select is clearly a LOT less expensive than any Model Y. If that is important to you, then this is a no brainer. It's more than a $16,000 difference right now.

For fun (I don't intend to lease), I decided to run the Ford Options and Model Y Lease numbers and see for myself, for a 10,500 mile 36-month Option versus a 10,000 mile 36-month lease.

If I did this right, the lowest cost Mustang Mach-E is about $1,400 less expensive than the lowest cost Model Y in Oakland, California.

That's not a huge difference. If as you said, the only reason for buying the Mach-E is because it is cheaper... yes, this is true. But it's not a LOT cheaper. You should get the car you prefer, IMHO.

(Note: As I said, I don't intend to lease... but this "cost" for borrowing a Mustang Mach-E strikes me as very high. I may have messed up this calculation. Check with your dealer. Caveat emptor.)
