Is there any noticeable range penalty in going from the premium wheel to the GTPE?

Wheel aerodynamics are the major reason the GT-PE gets less EPA range than the GT. The Premium's wheels have a scosche less drag than the GT's do, so it would go to follow that the PE wheels would be a range reducer for the Premium. If range is your major concern, look at a set of CA Route 1 wheels. 😊🐩

I wasn't even thinking that the range difference was because of the wheels.. its only 10mi, so thats not huge.

I'm not looking to increase range, just didn't want to take too significant of a hit if I did swap over. 3.7% off my 224 estimated range is 217.

Absolutely the GT wheels and tires have more rolling resistance and more aerodynamic resistance than the Premium wheels. It is probably 5-10% worse, but that it's only a guess. I have not seen any data that measures the actual difference. You can look at the EPA highway efficiency and see there is a difference which is probably largely due to the wheels/tires.

Yes

And they definitely have a negative effect on range. I haven't really been keeping track so hard to quantify exactly. Looking at the specs though, the GT is rated at 270 mi of range and the premium with 19-in wheels is rated at 290.

Hi all - Relatedly, is there any reason that a GT rim would not fit on a GTPE (thinking about a winter set up for next year)? I ask because I think the PE has different/larger calipers. Thanks is advance.

I think the 19" premium wheels are closer in efficiency to the 18" Select and CR1 than the 20" GT rims.

Having previously owned a Select, currently owning a GT (which Ive run stock GT, GTPE, and CR1 wheels on), and a Premium ER in the family, I would guess a 10+% hit moving from 19" premium to 20" GT rims, and 15+% going to GTPE.

Just a guess but I would rate the CR1 as best and the Select 19" wheels as 2nd best in terms of efficiency.
