A big concern that I have is that removal of the windshield could result in cracking it. There is already a shortage of replacement windshields.

I used to build demolition derby cars and had the special knife to cut the seals, the glass would still chip or crack at the edges fairly easily.

Always a possibility but the glass guys do this all day everyday. I doubt there will be many issues.

So those of us with earlier builds may be in the clear.
Mine was built in December. Hoping my MME FE is not part of this recall. I wonder what changed on the production line that resulted in problems with cars built starting in February. They must have changed the procedure and materials used to fasten the windshield and glass roof.

It has been clarified that the start date was 2020, not 2021. So all MMEs built prior to June of 2021 are very likely affected.

I will not do any recall without parts being available, (windshield and glass roof )within a day or 2.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by letters imailed October 27 according to NHTSA. The windshield will be removed and reinstalled according to the NHTSA site info. For the pano roof the fix is to install more urethane adhesive if required. I'm curious if there is an inspection process that will determine what is required. I doubt that I will have the windshield fix done if I get a letter. I might get the inspection done. The windshield hazard is if you get in a crash, so I just have to avoid getting in a crash. ?The safety hazard for the pano roof is not to the MME occupant but the hazard to other cars who may get hit by flying glass. My pano roof install has no obvious faults, but I'm no expert.

They do this every day with glass that will be discarded when removed. Not with glass that must remain undamaged for reinstallation.
I personally haven't done a lot of glass R&R, but I have successfully performed a few removals without having broken or scratched any, always with the glass that the installers claim is the worst (old, brittle, dried-out glass that's been in the sun too long).

EDIT: OK I forgot that I purposely broke my Blazer's windscreen when removing it. My Blazer had very few options. Tinted glass was not one of the options it had (at least it had roll-up glass in the doors and a roof), so after I bought a tinted windshield I put a hammer through the clear glass.

thanks for pointing out the pano roof is only additional bonding and not removal, I had it in my head they would have to remove it. I'm not troubled by the windshield being removed as surely they'll have someone like safelite do the work.

According to article:

"In both cases, documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that all of the vehicles within the production range of Feb. 24, 2020, to July 18, 2021, have the defect."

<edit> I asked my questions below before reading the entire thread...

I saw this as well. Were Mach-E's actually being produced in February 2020??? I thought the production didn't start until late 2020. Other articles have it as February 2021 though so.

If that is the true case then our Mach-E should be OK. I believe ours was built in November 2020 and we picked it up at the dealer 12 days before the recall date starts...

I'm hoping it's 2021 since my build date is 12/20.
