In the text describing the reason for the 22S41 Safety Recall Ford describes some of the conditions that may cause main contactor overheating to include repeated DC fast charging and repeated use of wide open throttle (WOT.)

Some users posted that they use WOT all the time. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I have. What are your habits?

I never use WOT when ambient is over 95 degrees. In cooler temps, I have gone WOT maybe 8 or 10 times in the 43k miles driven. Even then, no more than 5 seconds at a time. I don't even do it from a standing stop because I don't think the 0-60 will be any better than applying just enough accelerator to match the grip.

When I had my Focus Electric and it was over 100F. If I used WOT, then the A/C would blow warm air until the HVB systems cooled back down. That car didn't have near the power of the MME so I have learned not to use WOT when it is hot out. This applies to pretty much every BEV out there as far as I know....

I still think it is strange that Ford plans to handle this with a software update without any inspection of the contactor. How will they know it is not on the verge of failing just before the update?

As far as the pole, note there is not any option for several times a week which would be between rarely and every time I drive. Also, every time my wife is not in the car should be one of the options as well.

Twice, to see what it got 0-60. And from some mph after 60 to 100+ (105).

I'm a gamer who loves racing sim type FM2+ , Iracing games.

This is a real treat driving this car coming from a clunky 08 CUV.

I use 3/4 throttle fairly often, WOT rarely. I get a kick out of how the throttle response seems to go up exponentially in Whisper mode after about 1/2 throttle.

I read that the software update is to activate and use temperature sensors already embedded in the contactor and use the signal to regulate power flow when the contactor starts overheating. In other words, it will take your foot off the throttle for you. :)

Also, "every time my wife is not in the car" is not an option that would have ever occurred to me, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

This is not entirely accurate. It judges temperature via resistance and extrapolation from that. It does not directly measure temperature, there are no sensors for that in the HVJB.

I'm on it at least once each time I drive it, but maybe not multiple times, just because I like to baby it and/or conserve range. With the Polestar rental (car still in shop) I'm on it almost every time because I don't care about longevity.

Yea the article said "sensors" but really, the method matters less than the result, yes?

Has Ford kept data on exactly what kind of driving caused this? their theory just doesn’t make sense. All the racing, all the conversations here about WOT and to assume these two things are causing it? Where is that data? Before our cars are tampered with, they need to explain a lot more than they are. If my cars functions are changed then we should be reimbursed for the added price we payed for higher horsepower.

ok, Ford, as Much as I love my Mach e, I’d like to see “ warning, this car can no longer do what we promised or payed for , use at your own risk” on their website. Tesla tried similar a few years ago and they had a class action lawsuit to settle, oh yeah, also add, do not drive these cars in high heat. How many cars would we have bought then? You need to do more, ford.why should we take a bath until you can come up with a future Mach e that’s fixed? And ours aren’t ? To say nothing of resale value in the long run.

Two things to know

the contractors are inside hermetically sealed cylinders filled with inert gas. Looking at them tells you nothing… opening them is analogous to opening an incandescent light bulb… once you have opened it, it’s done.

measuring voltage across the contractors tells you if they are damaged
