Would you consider a M3 as your second car?

I am looking for a second BEV for my wife. I have been looking at all of the makes like the Bolt, Kona, ID4 and so on. The Bolt is the only one that qualifies for the full 7500 rebate but you can't find any with the better trim. Even if I could find one of the other comparable models they all price high. (but can't find much of anything in stock) I hadn't even considered a M3 as I have been a never again owner.(I had a M3 before my MME 3 years ago). But a standard range M3 is selling for 38k and when you take off the 7500 plus 2000 in NY and the 500 rebate from Tes it puts her in the car for less than 30k. Very compelling, but I have such a dislike of the personality behind the car I just don't know if I can do it. Would you?

The ID.4 should also qualify.

I saw a nice Bolt premier used in Mass for $18, subtract the federal used rebate and you have a nice car with a new battery and refreshed warranty? In Mass with the extra used rebate it's 10.5k, a steal.

For us our 2nd car won't work as an EV yet, I need more ground clearance for winter storms, or trips to Canada thru the mountains.

But depending on your needs why not an M3, would be a great daily commuter.

The Volvo EX30 comes out next summer, and starts at about $35,000. It's the same size as the Bolt, and would be very tempting if I didn't already have 2 EVs. For me, it's not just the personality behind the car that makes me want to avoid Tesla, but also that I don't feel I can trust Tesla to not suddenly drop a feature like radar or ultrasonic sensors, with no comparable replacement in place.

It‘s not a rebate, it’s a tax credit. You have to have enough tax liability, and the income limits are pretty low.

It’s for your wife.

What does she think?

If you're not trying to buy before end of year, the highland M.3 is the way to go. More efficient, more power, updated styling, higher density LMFP battery which will last much longer, able to charge to 100% daily, range increase as well. Another perk of 2024 is the credit is going to move to the purchase vs being a tax credit.

If that's the only thing holding you back then think about it this way.

It's one of the few EVs made in the USA by 130,000 hard working people. You're only giving control to the person you dislike if you're letting him affect your purchasing decisions. Do what's best for your family and your wallet.

She actually likes it's looks better than my mme. We don't agree on that one. A happy wife is a happy life soo I will probably put my feelings aside on this one. The dog will be happy too since she isn't allowed in my car and I never liked going places in the current beater car

Good point, thanks, I was hoping for some rational responses to why I changed my decision

I started to read the responses and immediately got confused as the only M3 I know of is BMW's M3. I was going to respond because my 2nd car is a 2015 BMW M4, which I owned since brand new (and has been trouble free). Thus if there is some EV model of M3 I would list the make too since most car people will automatically assume you are talking about a BMW. BTW, my answer to a BMW M3 would be yes as it still has some edge over the Mustang Mach E GT Performance Edition...

M3 on EV forums is the common abbreviation for the Tesla Model 3

MY is commonly used to refer to the Tesla Model Y, unless tied with a number then it's Model Year (MY21)

which lends some credence to the opinion that "EV" people are not "Car" people. Ask anyone on a car forum not limited to EVs and an M3 is a BMW.

Same... I was thinking... heck yeah... a B58 M3 would be an awesome second car!
