Does installing the trailer hitch eliminate the foot-activated lift gate??
No. But… I recently started having issues using the foot activation. I read others here to say that the foot activation was discontinued, it has me wondering if it got deactivated by a software update.

My 4x8 trailer folds up and fits in the space between the front of my wife's car and the garage wall. I put 80 bags of mulch in it last year. I love it.
What kind of trailer do you have? I haven’t trailered anything and not really planning to do so to avoid warranty questions. But never know after the warranty is out …

I purchased it from Harbor Freight for $500. I assembled it myself and added plywood for the flooring and wood slats on the sides. After taxes, licensing and the wood I added it ended up costing around $800. Totally worth it.

I have not towed it with my MME yet, but it should be no problem. I need to add a wiring harness to my car before trying to tow the trailer. My wife's car has a manufacturer installed hitch so likely I will just continue to use her car to tow it.

I just put my EXO base on today and should have the cargo box here in a few days. We're going to see if we can pack enough camping gear while leaving enough room for my dog in the back. Have you seen any range loss from the cargo box alone? How about with the bike on the top shelf? Any issues with the bike being above the roofline and perpendicular?

I haven’t really used the setup for any significant trips yet, this is all in preparation for a camping trip in August. That said, I did put it all together and drove to Portland, OR (about 100 miles total) to test it out with the cargo box on the bottom and the basket on top and run some other errands. These are my impressions:
- Range hit, if any, wasn’t noticeable. I was seeing 2.7-3.1 miles/kWHr, which is pretty normal for this trip in this weather.
- No appreciable increase in wind noise. The sides of the cargo box and basket weren‘t visible in the side view mirrors, nor did they extend above the roofline. I imagine , however, there could be some wind noise and drag with bicycles on the top rack.

Thanks for your impressions. I guess I'll be the camping guinea pig since we'll be leaving in early July and heading north from San Diego. Hoping to make it up to Olympic National Forest in Washington, but we'll see how it goes. Although I'm tempted to take the gravel bike, I'm leaving the bikes at home and haven't bought the rack yet, but it's in the plans for the future.

That sound like quite the trip! I’m only going maybe 90 miles to Cape Disappointment in SW Washington for my trip. Although I do intend to use the setup when/if I drive down to visit family in LA. Have a great trip.

So hold on a minute, I must have missed the part where there is a trailer/tow hitch available for the Mach-E.

Is there a product link somewhere?

Aftermarket and not "approved" by Ford. Regardless, many have installed them including me. I did it by myself and I freaking love it.

I use my hitch several times a week to take my bikes to where I Iike to ride. I have not towed anything yet, because I have not installed a harness for lights. I will do that one day.

There are several aftermarket 2” hitch receiver options for the Mach E. I have the Torklift, which is on the spends end because it’s made with stainless, but it was the only one available at the time. I believe that Drawtite and Curt have started selling their own versions. I ordered directly from Torklift and self-installed, but you can get others from Auto Anything or e-trailer.com and self-install or have them installed at a shop.

The custom trailer wire harness is a more recent development, only available from e-trailer.com so far. It’s a bit trickier from a “not rated to tow” perspective. Without it it’s easier to make the case that you haven’t towed and only using for a bike rack. But my complete hitch-mounted cargo setup blocks the taillights and license plate, so I felt compelled to get the lighting, even tho the odds of me actually towing with this vehicle are slim.

This post caught my eye. I've got a Summit bike rack attached to the rear door of my 2021 Ford Transit.

I bought a Yakima cargo & double bike rack from someone who lives 850 miles away, so I am taking a multi-day trip up to pick it up. I'll end up with both bike racks a long way from home when I pick up the Yakima.

How small does the double bike rack break down to transport it back home? I am thinking of using my Summit bike rack on this trip so I have our bikes for the trip and then unloading it when I get home.

I'd rather not carry the bikes inside the van, which I would have to do if I travel up to get the EXO without the Summit bike rack installed.

Any ideas about deploying the cargo box only for this pickup trip, and using the Summit bike rack for the bikes. I know that we can have both in place at the same time because they use up a lot of the same air space in the back of the van. Would the EXO's double bike rack fit inside the cargo box if broken down into its parts like it comes when newly shipped?

I've attached a picture of the Summit bike rack on the back of the van for perspective.

The person we are buying the system from doesn't think so, but the diagrams on the Yakima website suggest that it should be possible. I appreciate any insights or thoughts. Thanks.

If I’m reading your post correctly, you’re getting a Yakima EXO base hitch, the EXO Cargo box, the EXO riser, and the EXO bike rack? If so:
1) I do think the EXO bike rack could be disassembled to fit in the EXO cargo box.
2) I have doubt that the bike rack you already have attached would clear the EXO Cargo box. I’ve never measured it exactly, but I did find the drawing below indicating it could be a little more than two feet higher measuring from the bottom of the receiver (EXO cargo box is ~16.5” high). BUT I don’t know how that Summit Rack works.
