SSM 51689 - 2021 Mustang Mach-E (Non-GT) - Buzz Noise From The IPC - Built On Or Before 22-Jul-2021

Some 2021 Mustang Mach-E (Non-GT) vehicles built on or before 22-Jul-2021 may exhibit a buzz noise from the instrument panel cluster (IPC) that changes with the brightness setting. This may be due to the internal hardware in the IPC. To correct the condition, replace the IPC. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 413-01. For claiming, use causal part 10849 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

----End SSM----

Some early Mach-E's had very noisy instrument panel clusters that emit a hissing or buzzing (capacitor) noise. Replacing the IPC may help, although this has had mixed results, some owners have reported the noise is still present after replacement. All the IPCs seem to buzz to some extent, but some are louder than others. If you have a particularly loud one, you could possibly get a quieter one after replacement.

@generaltso now you can get your power meter, too!

Does yours buzz @Mach-Lee
Yes, they all buzz but mine is not especially loud. The white noise hiss from the power steering motor being active is the loudest thing at idle in my car.

Iā€™m amazed ford addresses this issue after 2 years. Maybe that means thereā€™s some hope yet for the electronic frunk release @Jimrpa!

Note that this is just the first step. A software update is coming for everyone that completely eliminates the buzz
Does that mean that we have to get the IPC replaced before we can get the software update?

The same buzzing noise that they said all were normal and do nothing a year plus back? I thought back then that all are different (some could be defective) and it is hard to put out a blanket statement like that. Good to see that changed. Still think they should run a Db meter at 6" or some set distance and draw a line in the sand. Nothing here is buzzing to loud either and definitely quieter than a V8 engine. So quiet now I listen to tunes. Heavy metal and don't hear a buzz at all. ;)

OH WOW - FINALLY?!? This has been hands down my biggest issue with my Mach-E for 2 years now. I think I was one of the first to bring it to light back in 2021, and got nothing but push-back from Ford.

Will be scheduling a service visit soon!

This is incredibly exciting news as someone who is very sensitive to the issue.

Do you still recommend I get the replacement? I had pushed hard back in 2021 with my dealer, but Ford at that point said it was to be expected.

If you have a vehicle in that build window it is HIGHLY advised to get the replacement
Will the replacement be required to get the software update? The buzz doesn't really bother me, but I'm hoping the software update will allow me to enable the power meter.

Thanks! Scheduled the service visit - though July is the earliest they can get it done. I'll be happy with even a small decrease in buzz.

How is this software fixable? Intriguing...

Note: I don't really notice the buzz in my July 3 '21 build. Is there a reason to get it replaced then?

The whine/buzzing is pretty clearly from the dimming unit in the display since it changes based upon selected brightness - seems like the earlier ones were worse off from an actual hardware point, but I'd guess there's a part of it stemming from the software side of (the dimming controller) as well, which seems true with this proposed update to address it.

If it doesn't bother you I don't see much reason to have it replaced.
