This is a big deal. If you've been having issues with Sync you need to read through this completely and then schedule a visit with your dealer service. Especially if you're seemingly 'stuck' and way behind on GWM, APIM, TCU updates.

Model: Ford 2021-2024 Mustang Mach-E

Markets: North American markets only

Issue: Some of the vehicles listed in the Model statement above may exhibit at least one of the following conditions:

• General system performance/stability/intermittent system reboot

• Intermittent wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto function

• Phone related concerns with intermittent no audio or static

• Navigation/GPS related concerns through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

• Alexa function consistency and stability

This may be due to a concern with the software in the APIM.
NOTE: The APIM software update that addresses the symptom listed in this bulletin may have been sent via a software update delivered OTA to connected vehicles that have automatic updates enabled through the center display screen. Enter the VIN in PTS and check the OTA Dashboard under the Connected Vehicle tab for OTA update history. If an update to the APIM has successfully completed recently and the customer is reporting the symptoms are no longer present, this article may not apply.

Action: For vehicles that meet all of the criteria in the Issue and Model statements, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the APIM.

Read through this to see all the things that will be updated. It's a lot.

So why not OTA them?

Interesting. My Lightning was fully updated by the dealership in the past few months, but the Mach-E was not. Screen rebooting is an issue on trips. Seems like I will be making a phone call.

It sounds like if you are out of warranty you are SOL.
Which is the hole in the OTA process, and may be why older cars are no longer getting updates. One could argue that a problem caused by an OTA should be a covered repair but the bean counters aren't going to let it happen.

At some point if failed OTA's keep breaking out of warranty cars lawyers or legislators are going to get involved, so my guess is Ford is going to stop updating them to prevent that from happening

Like it alludes to in the narrative...some updates need to be done before others...so there may be a dependency issue that's keeping things from moving along properly.

Understand, but is the sequencing logic unique to each vehicle / group? You would assume that OTAs can be sequenced based on what is required first.

What if you are on the latest software and still experiencing some of the issues?

Specifically no audio from CarPlay periodically, GPS issues in CarPlay, and intermittent CarPlay auto connect.

Seems like there is not really a fix yet based on the document.

My car has the issues but would be (2) No - this article does not apply.

I don't have a good answer to that.

They may be trying to address issues like this car has with a shed-load of updates backed up...

Im on the latest update as far as I'm aware and I've had some of these carplay problems, but they're rare and very intermittent.

Specifically I've had carplay randomly disconnect sporadically and phone/navigations refusing to play sound.

It's always usually fixed itself after restarting the car, it's just annoying. I wonder if I should schedule my car.

I’m in exactly the same boat. My car is, thankfully, fully OTA updated. But yeah, there are intermittent CarPlay connectivity issues. Usually CarPlay connects, but about 1 in 10 times the audio does not work until I reset (quickest method is going to Settings - Phone, and switching to Bluetooth and then back to CarPlay).

I’m under extended warranty, but I’m not spending 100 bucks to reprogram the APIM and potentially break something else. Certainly not until Ford has a more definite fix.

Tagging @Ford Motor Company - not that “new” @Ford Motor Company appears to be any more helpful or communicative than the old @Ford Motor Company.

Interesting... this is also a way to sneak getting all these module updates as we wait forever for OTAs...
