Still trying to dial in tire pressures, but was still a fun event. I was the only car in my class (B Street) but did have the second fastest raw time for a car and was 5th in PAX out of 31 total entries. Fairly happy with that.

Very cool. I don’t know how guys do that. I get lost on supermoto tracks all the time because of the damn cones. ?

Some courses are better than other with respect to cone placement (our 3rd event this year was a MESS with cones). Overall, once you train your eyes a bit, you can just see the path. But some people are better at course design than others.

BMW Car Club of America offers car control clinics that in addition to learning how far you can push your EV, are a great prelude to doing autocross.

Club membership is required but what you can learn about the handling of your MME is priceless!

Ya, their Street Survival school is supposed to be really good too. Not really what I'd say is "performance based" but a pretty good place to start for new drivers learning how to handle a car.

When I designed courses my goal was to keep the newbies from getting lost but making it hard for the experienced drivers to find the perfect line. You can position sucker cones that fool people into a different line but not go off course.
Learning to walk the course and visualize your drive takes some practice. I have found that walking racetracks can be very helpful.

I agree. I walk them forward and backwards. It’s amazing how much you learn walking it in reverse direction. But I’m used to concrete and not cones. ?

One thing that's killing me lately is that some of our people doing courses can't quite seem to understand pointer cones. Like we might use some pointers outside of a turn that are supposed to be in the eyeline as you approach, but they're all turned the wrong way. You shouldn't be able to see the ass-end of a pointer cone as you approach it - that doesn't help anyone at all. I usually try to fix some of this early in the morning (when setup was the day before). But it's an ongoing problem.
