Had a chance see the Mach E today in person at the road show. They had a Infinite Blue and Rapid Red both Premium with ER, AWD. The IB had black Onyx interior and the Red had the lighter interior. Both were indoors , so hard to tell how the IB looks in sun light.

I showed up at 11.45 for 12 noon appointment and there were already a dozen folks or so waiting with the cars being shown by two Ford Reps. It was strictly interior touch only although I allowed my Rep to let me shut the frunk.

I got to spend about 20 mins in the Rapid Red. The Ford Rep mentioned that these are preproduction vehicles and hence he cant let me open the frunk panels that are closed not mess too much with the screen.

Given there are already lot of road show pictures and details various forum members, I will only share few thoughts and few pictures.

Initial thoughts in no particular order:

1 - Infinite Blue - I was not wowed when I first entered the showroom and saw it. It grew on me - but it looked darker inside and I just did not convey Blue to me on first sight.

2 - Rapid Red - looks much better than in pictures

3 - Frunk has two stages of lock or two locks - that is why it requires two pulls of the lever. And to close it, it requires a forceful shut (slam) from about a foot height - there is no way to bring it close and just push - as explained by Ford Rep and I tried it and it does require a hard forceful shut from about a foot height - otherwise will not close

4 - Trunk has two positions for the floor, the 2 metal in the back are the higher position to position the floor. Its a light weight panel. If you want flat floor with rear seats down, this is the position to be in. If you don't mid the step when the rear seats are down or want more trunk space, the floor can be position below the metal supports.

5 - Seats - comfortable - I am 5'10'' on my best day and I had to set it at highest position and farthest back to feel at ease.

6 - The soundbar material is not going to withstand sharp materials on it - so I think looks and feels solid but even if someone frequently puts their feet up, the shoes rubbing against it might damage it.

7 - Space beneath arm rest - enough for a small purse not large items - but wallets, phones, small cameras are Ok.

8 - Glove box door hard to shut, I generally dont like slamming doors and my normal way of closing it would not work, needed hard slam.

9 - Touch screen was responsive and fast at least to me

10 - Side mirrors seemed adequate in size and so did rear view mirror.

11 - Ford rep mentioned side mirrors are auto dimming in dark like the rear view mirror but I am not sure

12 - The power plug , can be removed by pressing the lock/unlock button next to charge port irrespective of car doors locked or unlocked according to the Ford Rep

13 - Over all build quality is very nice - I would not put it in the same category as say a high end trim BMW (i am comparing to the new X3 for example) but over all fit, finish and primary touch surfaces seem top notch for a Ford branded vehicle. It is much closer to the signature trim level in a new Maxda CX5/CX9.

14 - The Mach E is not that tall - shorter than a CRV - looks like a fast back from the side but definitely conveys sportiness with powerful stance.

I will get another chance this month at my local dealer - so will get a chance to explore more.

Had a chance to chat with the dealer GM - he mentioned that he had 45 converted reservations - only a few have build dates. He is expecting road test vehicles - two of them - in 4-6 weeks. He also said that he heard a few days ago that Ford is trying to push the build ahead - Not sure what to make of it.

Based on the SOC and miles - I would estimate a 260 mile range - close to the 270 mark for AWD ER trim. Obviously we dont know the specific conditions the vehicle went through before that.

It in one of the pictures above with the steering wheel - shows 38% with 99 miles - that comes to roughly 260 miles. I could not see any other statistics on the larger pad that showed battery related info - I was limited to what teh Rep was trying to show and let me touch. And in between keep canceling the screen that shows up saying its waiting for voice command.

yeah sorry it didn’t load for me at first. 260 is pretty decent.

Anybody puts their feet on my dashboard and I'm keeping the feet even after I throw them out of the car. Why would someone do that?

Liar liar pants on fire! I showed up at 11:50 and was first in line. Just kidding -- we were first at the Infinite Blue. You were probably already inside looking at the "more tickets" red vehicle (their description not mine). Had to wait, however, while the dealer rep tried to figure out the iPad based check-in procedure Turned out all he had to do was check the box.

As mentioned, I was in the Infinite Blue. Didn't look at the range but the energy screen indicated it was getting 99 miles per kWh! I wish. :)

I won't post any pics -- these have been covered -- but l'll attach a short demo of how to remove and attach the cargo cover. I think a few have asked about that.

Thoughts:

1. The interior was not as large as I expected but perfectly fine. Hard to judge without having a reference right there.

2. The looks were OK but a family SUV is not ideally suited for cutting edge design. It was certainly nice enough.

3. The cargo area looks much larger when you drop the floor. The pics I've seen have been with the floor up. Dropping it, which is very easy and likely where I'd keep it, makes it look much larger.

4. Seats were fine but I'd have to spend more time in them for a definitive conclusion. The power controls were responsive and intuitive.

5. The interface is fabulous and the driver DIC is a nice touch. I thought the volume control looked a little like it was stuck on, which I guess is the case.

6. The door handles were super easy. Love these already. The driver/passenger handles were also more substantial than I thought they would be. They are a full metal piece not just a pull.

7. Cameras were standard overhead/360 and then front and back. Wish it had a camera for the rear view mirror. Those are fabulous.

8. The frunk was smaller than anticipated. From pics I though the divider would work well but I think I'd remove it to make the space more useable. No doubt people have mentioned that it opened like a hood, only with a double pull, and that there is no latch to fiddle with, but I missed the "no latch" part. For me the frunk would only be used on trips for small bags. A cooler doesn't seem likely given that you'd have to stop to access it.

8. My wife fussed about the panoramic roof. She wondered how structurally sound it was in a roll-over, whether it would overheat the interior, and was concerned if it would increase glare.

With that, here is the video of the cargo cover:

ditto on the rear view camera mirror, love that feature in the RAV4. Hopefully the rear view camera can stay persistently on in the center screen as a substitute.

Excited about the dimming side view mirrors if true!

There are rollover standards that have to be passed.

haha - we must have crossed paths in the showroom - and I got into the red one because I was told few more people wanted to see the blue car :)

regarding the doors - the one point the Ford Rep mention for me to watch was that when the button is pressed and it opens a bit and then when you pull it open, the mechanism makes a noise. Its audible but not loud. He was almost trying to say that it is a feature - that hearing that noise helps us understand if the door is opened wide or to be closed. Dont really understand the real use case there.

Also I found the rear doors to not open as wide I would have liked. A few more degrees of opening would have been better.
