Tesla always boost range through OTA, sometimes twice a year. What's the chance for MME? If Ford can improve efficiency with software update, that will truly improve MME's value in long term.

I’m honestly less concerned with range than with charging speed.

I could have less range if I had a faster recharge time, my biggest concern isn’t how far I can scrape on a single charge, it’s whether I can make road trips without having to check into a hotel or twiddle my thumbs for 45mins in a rest stop parking lot or Wendy’s in Ohio.

Could be done as easily as deciding to unlock more reserve, too. 5 more kWH would be another 15 miles of range in an E4X.

May be they will charge us for such upgrades if substantial and drivers get to decide if it’s worth it

That would be fine with me. I would opt to leave it as is. The provided range is going to be way more than I will need anyway.

2020 Model Y LR went from 315 to 326 miles in a recent update.

So how much did your real-world range go up after the OTA? Or was it just Tesla tweaking to do better on the 5-cycle test?

That’s a 3.5% difference. Is that even observable in actual driving?
No, but the Tesla fan boys go crazy over it.
The increases via software tend to be small increments that add up over time. Some are hardware changes that can boost range by 7-8%.

I think people need more time to collect data. For me, temps are dropping so it's hard to do a controlled test. Plus, most of my drives are not long distance, so too many variables with traffic.

With about 520 miles since my OTA update, I am seeing low wh/mi, so it appears there's improvement but it's hard to say. Here's a screenshot of my commute cycle. Over the 520 miles, my wh/mi is around 242 (which includes 160 highway miles, 360 city) . Previously in late summer/ early Fall, 255 but the numbers may be skewed because I did a lot of 0-60 and quarter mile test runs when I bought a Dragy GPS and the acceleration boost upgrade.

The Jaguar I pace did have an update that extended range by 8-9%. So OTA range updates are the industry standard for EVs now since multiple Mfgs are doing it. I’m sure that the Mach E will get a range boost at some point.

Also, EPA tests the DEFAULT mode of a car, and not any of its eco-modes. So it’s entirely possible that the Mach E will overperform its epa rating.
