12v Inflatable mattress was the changemaker for us.
I've been considering bringing our backpacking air pads next time. Need to also shove some pillows or foam into the space between the rear seats and the front seats. I can't do the bigger air matress--I move around too much.

It's not too thick. Worth a try if you are looking for something different.

do you feel like the weight has attributed to that? vs driving different vehicles and tires. i live in canada where the snow can be crazy too. more than 200 cm a year (80"inches")
I moved your question from the other post to this one because I felt we were getting far off topic there...

I think the ability of the car to adjust each axle's rotation rate thousands of times a second for vastly superior traction control compared to a dead-dino-juice vehicle is the main reason it performs better on the ice than any vehicle I've driven before, even without snow and ice tires.

Weight is great if there's just snow, but if there's ice, weight just contributes to Newton's first law of motion and makes it more difficult to turn or stop. If you want more traction without replacing the tires, just lower the pressure a bit. That does the same thing increased weight does without adding inertia to the vehicle.

Example:
Dropping the tire pressure from 269 kpa (39 psi) to 248 kpa (36 psi) will give you an extra ~20 cm^2 surface area. That's like adding >180 kg (400 pounds) to the weight of the vehicle, but without the additional inertial complications.

Happy that you got to do it. Beautiful pictures. Yes! It's a great car, love the way it drives and handles the road. I had big plans to drive this summer to various NC, SC beach towns and finally to TX. Unfortunately my car is still in shop for over 7 weeks. Just heard that we might finally get the part next week.

Oh, no! I'm bummed for you. I hope your part does finally come in!

Tesla Model S and Model X. Interested in Mach-E

Ah, I don't have it connected to my OBD2 module. I'm using that with CarScanner to log all the things the data nerd in me wants to collect (and then ignore because I'm not paid to do my own hobby projects--sigh)...

I've only run ABRP for pre-trip planning and post-trip analysis.
~4 year Tesla owner here - if you can send ABRP data from your car, ABRP uses the data to build a customized consumption profile for your car. This greatly increases the accuracy of the predictions. It also helps them gradually improve their generic Mach-E consumption profile.

For me, initially, the ABRP predictions were fairly conservative on my Model 3, and three years later, the new Model S. But after a few thousand miles of sending them data, the arrival SOC at a charger was typically ±2% SOC of the predicted SOC.

If Ford doesn't have an API that provides data, someone will hopefully eventually create a service that can connect to an OBD2 module and then send that data to multiple places.

Thanks!

I believe the current version of ABRP can read from an OBD2 bluetooth device. I haven't tested it. I'll have to look at their pricing.

Honestly at this point my experience is that I really don't need full planning software. I just to know that my route has charging options along it. PlugShare seems to do the job well enough.

can you leave the car "running" so it does cabin climate control? ie running the ac/heat when you sleep

Yes.
There's a default setting to shut the car off after 30 minutes, but that can be turned off.

Last winter I left a work meeting late and so had to take a nap on my (500 mile) drive home. So I napped at a slow DC charger for about 90 minutes and left the car on with the seat heater going. Left with 100% charge.

I didn't need a heater for the night of camping shown in the photos here.

okay so i haven't tried this out, but... i'm assuming the gigantic tablet screen will still be lit up if the car is "on," so do you cover it up with something?
and the a/c isn't as good when it's "off," do you just cope, or leave it "on"? feels like it's just blowing air instead of ac when it's off
have you bought anything to block out light for the windows? i have roof and dash blockers.
i'm asking all of these dumb questions bc i work 12hr hospital overnights and and want to be staying on that sleep schedule if im camping out in the mme

I don't think these are dumb questions.

I think @GuliblGuy has a full write-up of their experiences camping in the Mustang. I've only done it once and the temperatures were such that I didn't need any HVAC, so I just shut the car off entirely.

I know many are ABRP fans, but I find Apple Maps adequate and very easy to use. I drove Milwaukee to Chicago today and Apple Maps continued to update estimated SoC on arrival throughout the trip, which is super helpful.
Apple Maps is essentially doing the same calculations as ABRP, but it has access to car data without an OBDII scanner, but we don't get to see all the fancy data it knows.

I know ABRP uses its access to the topography data from Openstreetmaps. Do you know if Apple Maps does the same? I have been assuming it does, but never checked.
