True, it's not a subscription. My analogy was trying to associate paying to make full (or fuller) use of hardware already owned.

My biggest issue with the software provided "upgrade" is that Ford can take it away (or modify it) as easily as they provide it. Is there anything in writing saying if you pay XX money, you WILL get certain things and you'll have them permanently?
Yes, post #6 on this thread.

They answer that right there:  "As a result, prior model years will not be eligible to activate."

Probably implying that other 2024 trims may be eligible for an upgrade in the future.
They speak in riddles.

All this means is that 2021-2023 can’t get THIS upgrade.

But we already know that because our motors aren’t capable of 700 tq.

We aren’t asking for this upgrade, we just want the power limiters reduced like the 2024. We wouldn’t complain about extra horsepower (our motors can handle 580 hp), but know we are limited on torque.

Either way, if 2021-2023 get anything, it will be different than 2024.

Am I reading that acceleration curve accurate that it shows you’re spinning the wheels under 30 mph?

3.4 is still the fastest recorded Mach E 0-60 so far though. Especially if on the street (one GTPE pulled that on a prepped track).

Not a prepped track - secondary road in the country. The tires were a little vocal.

As others have said, unlocking a performance boost with a one-time payment is wayyyy different than a subscription for heated seats or whatever. I’ve got no issue with this.

If Ford had allowed people to pay $1,000 extra at purchase of the car for a slightly faster 0-60 time, what would the complaint be? Why then, is this really any different other than the added flexibility of allowing customers to easily add this option after purchase?

As for “crippling the hardware,” remember that part of this purchase price is adding warranty coverage for putting additional strain on the motors. Shouldn’t Ford get some compensation for taking on additional warranty risk?

I could see (and I would support) Ford likewise charging a fee to unlock more battery capacity. Ford would be taking on more warranty risk, people could decide how much an extra 20 miles or so of range is worth. I dunno… I’d pay a couple hundred for that. Probably not more tho.

I’m no lawyer, but I don’t think an easily edited post on a forum like this by a shared social media account is legally binding.
Everything put in writing by company employees can be legally binding.

But either way, yes, it’s in writing.

And no, I don’t think they will take the tune away after you’ve paid for it and like they said, it’s permanently tied to the VIN.

Perhaps. I guess I just don’t trust any statement from Ford anymore. :(.

For sure they’ve lost some trust over the years.

But that’s typically more about things coming “soon,” or upcoming things in general.

The thing that you’re afraid of (Ford taking away power you paid for) hasn’t been done by Ford or any other manufacturer…….ever.

In general I think there are plenty of real fears and reasons to mistrust companies out there, so we don’t need to make up new hypotheticals.

If you ordered a 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT or are thinking about ordering one, we are giving you the flexibility to choose when you want to access the optional Performance Upgrade. This can be selected at vehicle purchase or access it seamlessly via the FordPass app via a one-time purchase for $995 plus tax once you have taken delivery of your vehicle. This means you don’t have to decide upfront if you want to purchase the Performance Upgrade and can activate it whenever you’re ready to boost the performance of your GT.

To activate the Performance Upgrade, simply go to the FordPass app and then navigate to the Connected Services tab. Click on the Performance Upgrade tile. Once you complete the transaction the upgrade will be installed in less than 5 minutes, and you can enjoy all that the upgrade enables. Note, this is non-transferrable to another VIN.

The Performance Upgrade enables 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT vehicle to:
  • Add additional 100 lb.-ft of torque for a total of 700 lb.-ft.*
  • 0-60 mph in 3.3. seconds, which is down from 3.8 seconds without the upgrade. It is also faster than both the Tesla Model Y Performance and the Porsche Macan 4 Electric.**
  • 11.8 seconds at 114 MPH through the quarter mile
Check out this video showing you how to access the Performance Upgrade via the FordPass app:

And, here is the Performance Upgrade in action:

*Calculated via peak performance of the electric motor(s) at peak battery power. Your results may vary.

**Ford test data based on typical industry methodology using 1-ft rollout. Your results may vary. Tested with optional Summer tires.
@Ford Motor Company
I am looking to order a -24 Mach-E GT.
Can you confirm if this option is available globally or just in North America? Local dealers don't know anything about this...

@Ford Motor Company I have to ask, what about for previous years GTPE owners!?
Everything I have read says this would take a lot of retesting and optimization the individual module configuration is different from year to year. IMHO this will not come to pre-2024 models. The hard part about the 2024s is if you won't pay for the performance upgrade they made it less appealing to buy a GT Premium AWD Extended battery 0-60 4.1 seconds GT 0-60 3.8 most would not notice the difference.

From when I drove it, the thing was extremely traction limited off the line. You will need a really good surface and/or tires to get the advertised 3.3 second 0-60. I'm even wondering if you put better tires than stock on if it would be possible to get a slightly faster time than 3.3? You'll run into the battery discharge limit probably shortly after that.

You haven't heard it costs $800/year for BlueCruise?
Not a Mach-E exclusive though.

But yes, I totally agree with you that price is egregious. I love both of my Bluecruise equipped vehicles. I have no intention of paying that rate once my current subscription ends. Mach-E came with a "trial" and ended quickly. The Powerboost came with 3 years. I have about 9 months left.
