Don't purchase one in California, it's way overpriced compared to almost any other state. Just go online (Granger Ford is a good one), use an address in another state, and you will save a lot of money. The warranty is tied to the VIN, not an address. Ignore all those that post after me that say you are breaking the law by giving a fake address. It doesn't matter. Also, you can use Fordpass points if towards the purchase.

This is interesting. Are the warranty plans priced differently per state? Or is it just that the plans are priced high just for California?

I think of extended warranties as being a bet with the company that you would spend more in repairs than you pay them for the warranty. Sure, there are people that "win" big now and again, but if many people were saving that much money, there wouldn't be so many companies offering extended warranties because it wouldn't make business sense. That's why, IMO, dealerships push them so hard.

It's like Las Vegas; those casinos aren't in the middle of the desert giving away drinks because they also give away money.

I've "won" the bet on pre-paid maintenance several times, so take that bet before I'll ever do an extended warranty.

It's an easy bet on a new product line. Lots of things can go wrong. I live in California and got my bumper to bumper warranty for $1600 from Lombard Ford, somewhere in the eastern time zone, which is half the price my California dealer wanted.

Like clockwork at 37 months of ownership, my Blue Cruise started falling. 110 failures in 2 months.

So, I took it in and they had to replace a cable. Took 3 days. I guess the cable was well hidden. I paid my $100 and deductible and left. Before I left I asked how much it would have cost without the warranty. He said that it was $2300.

Repairs on this car are expensive. Get the warranty if you intend to keep it past the manufacturer's warranty period.

I bought extended warranty since it's a new model. As already advised, look at out of state dealers like Flood and etc to buy warranty. You will need to be ready to provide out of state address otherwise they will not sell warranty to you.

Retail price on the extended warrranties is higher than the online pricing offered by some of the Ford dealers who sell them online. In March of 2024 California enacted a statute that doesn’t allow residents to purchase out of state (I recently found out we also cannot lease from an out of state dealer). Thus, the need to tell the online seller that your address is one out of California (unfortunately, cannot do that with a lease). Our state sux. ??

What a silly statute!

I was looking for an extended Ford warranty and went to Granger to find out they don't offer for CA.

What CA dealers offers a competitive priced extended warranty ?

Have friends or family elsewhere? Use their address. Barring that try some of the larger volume dealerships. Start with Serramonte Ford in NorCal. Then move to SoCal.

The issue in California is that these products are considered insurance and thus have to have an in state presence.

Hawaii, oddly enough, doesn’t have this rule. I bought mine through Granger but was prepared to use my parents address in Idaho.

Thanks for that!

Starting to scour the state for a quote.

How would out of state work - will Ford question that I don't live there, but my relatives do ?

So I decided not to fake an address from a friend that lives in another state. I feel the insurance has more to win by denying my claim than covering it. I have California plates, what am I going to do register the car in a different state. I went to the California dealership and asked how much for the extended warranty and they quoted me $5,800 for ten years or 100,000 miles. Tried to negotiate price no way. So I decided the first repair I have over $2,500 . I will fix it and sell it ! Just my thoughts.

That's what I was afraid of getting ESP using a relative's address....

As for the cost, are there lower cost plans like up to 60,000 miles (buying 24,000 miles) ?

I live in CA, bought mine from Grainger in Iowa on line at a deep discount, and used my friend's address in Oregon. No issues.

I also live in CA, any issues with having warranty repairs done when you have purchased the extended warranty out of state since the California law or requirment change? Thank you in advance for your help!

no issues. The warranty attached to the car and so far no one checked extended warranty originated dealership and/or address.
