  1. Long term - High Mileage expectations

SoH is very useful, we just don't seem to know at what point the HVB stops functioning as I don't think anyone has reached that point. I would assume outside of some physical deterioration the HVB will continue drop in range or stop holding a charge. My Leaf at 12 years old was down to %68 and...
  2. 3-year old 12V battery tests "good" - should I still replace it?

My 2021 with 23k miles was replaced twice. Once before I owned it and once by me. It happened during our first cold snap last December and series if cascading software updates and failure of the HVBJB spent a few weeks in the shop. Spending $200-500 on a $50k plus car seems a small price to pay...
  3. Long term - High Mileage expectations

My thoughts on cars once they are paid off is how much would a repair be in monthly payments? A 50k car over 5 years is almost 1k a month. Outside of the battery I would think most other parts would be worth fixing. probably main electric motor would be the next most expensive. We all know how...
  4. Doug Field, Ford's advanced EV-and-tech chief to leave the company [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

When I took my Mach-E to the dealer ship the first words out of his mouth was they weren't Ford. Dealerships are there to extract money, training techs aren't their problem.

This is why the dealership power needs to go. I don't give a shit if they want to service them. Let the manufactures sell to the customer and service them. Dealerships are rent seeking evil shits, remove them all.
  6. Very cool solution to long charge times.

Container ships already have cranes and can have batteries waiting in every port. Drop off the old ones and charge them up, and guess what, throw some offshore wind to charge them up. https://maritime-executive.com/article/china-starts-sea-trials-for-largest-electric-powered-containership

You get to pick, bail out the US autos or dump Chinese EV tariffs. Eventually the greedy dealership owners will want to sell EVs and they will lobby to get them from whoever they can. Their only loyalty is to their pocketbooks.
  8. Very cool solution to long charge times.

Ubiquitous L2 charging for home and public top offs and 20-30 minute fast charge for travel is sufficient. Plenty of people have shown travel with the above is possible and we just need 10 times more of it. With a 10 year owner lifecycle on cars you will always be chasing new tech and most...

The US autos are giving up for now because all they think about is quarter to quarter. China is going to flood Canada and Mexico with EVs and they aren't going to buy US cars. KIA/Hyundai aren't going to stop selling them neither is Subaru. EVs are going to reach parity with ICE in cost in the...
  10. Level 1 Charging

Good for you. Mine's charging on L1 right now. It looks like you are in MI, if you are on DTE look at your peak vs off peak hours. Way cheaper to charge off peak and the weekend Fri evening to Monday morning are off peak. I do my long charges on the weekend.

Even better let the manufactures sell direct to the consumer. Ford's complaint would be solved because they could train a bunch of mechanics and create repair super-centers. We don't have an open market for cars, dealerships are mini coercive monopolies. We subsidize fossil fuels why not EVs.

Hey if it's the market that chooses then remove the tariffs.. We don't have small trucks anymore because of the chicken tax. Remove the tariffs on Chinese EVs and we'll see who buys what. My Nissan Leaf was the best subcompact I ever had. My Mach-E is the best car I've ever had. When the prices...
  13. Spring Break - 2700 mile road trip - NC to Michigan U.P. to St. Louis

I noticed the other day that Google maps did a good job of finding chargers, better than any of the apps I have.

I gotta go with RickMachE on this, the future is EVs. The US has 2 giant problems, lack of charging infrastructure, and the dealerships hold too much sway over market adoption. The US manufacturers are dinosaurs and will eventually build more EVs because those non US EVs will trickle in and they...
  15. Spring Break - 2700 mile road trip - NC to Michigan U.P. to St. Louis

I give you credit. I live in MI and I'm not sure I would venture to the UP in my Mach-E. More places need 240 v outlets for charging. Hotels could add them to half a dozen spaces for overnight charging. Something all of us know the only downside to an EV in the US is the poor charging...
