I had compass directions appear out of the blue on my dashboard, and I thought it was a software upgrade, but then they disappeared. Is there a way to get it back?

Has there been any discussion about moving the internal activation button from the controls screen to be accessible from any screen? It drives me a little nuts that if I'm driving home from the grocery story and listening to music that I have to switch screens to open the liftgate when I get home.
