10/21 build date for a GTPE and still on the original 12v. No issues but will replace before the Michigan winter hits this year.
But to be fair, not a lot of miles, environmentally controlled garage. It hasn't had a hard battery life.
Install took me a few hours working slowly as you have to run a cable from the IPMA (located behind a panel in the trunk) all the way to the the rearview mirror area where you install the device. It wasn't hard, just takes some time to remove panels and run the cable. It's unfortunate that...
OpenPilot (the software) is free and open source. The hardware (Comma 4 in my case) is where the expense is. I paid I think $950 for it.
BP was a typo - I intended to say BC for BlueCruise... Sorry.
I installed openpilot / Comma 4 a few months ago and am thrilled with it. Much better than BP in that it's works on any road and I find it much more reliable in figuring out situations like lane merges or splits, or faded/no lane markings. BP would just cancel on me frequently.
I'm still enjoying BP very much. A few questions:
1) Anyone know what the blue vertical bar behind the confidence ball is? It started showing up when I installed the new beta version of BP. It appears and disappears but I don't understand what it indicates. Can it be turned off?
2) Does...
@ReverendPete - I just installed the Comma 4 a few weeks ago tucked into the headliner according to AjzRide excellent instructions and video. I used the Comma provided cable and it was the perfect length.
The only tricky part was fishing a piece of wire coat hanger above the headliner around...
Notre Dame is awesome! So smooth, much less ping pong. Perfect lane centering. I also changed the lane change to not need the nudge. Love it.
Obviously more testing to do, but super happy so far.
Awesome. Heading out to try Notre Dame now.
@AjzRide - do you have a link somewhere I can send you coffee money (we're talking fancy Starbucks level here)? I love people like you who give of your time and talent so freely to help a community and would love to support.
I unplugged the Comma and started the car and Android Auto worked wireless. Shut everything down, plugged in the Comma and started it up and no AA... So I cleared the phone info from Sync, and deleted the Mach E from the phone, plus cleared all Android Auto data and cache. After re-pairing...
Ok - here is a weird one...
On the two drives I've done so far with the Comma 4, Android Auto doesn't seem to connect wirelessly. It works by cable but not wirelessly. That's kind of a big deal for me.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!
I'll add another THANK YOU to @AjzRide! I did the install today and it was a piece of cake thanks to his video instructions. I just got back from my first test drive on stock OpenPilot and was really impressed. A few things I noticed:
It hugs the right lane marker a bit too close. I think...
I'm curious if BP controls the ACC, or is that handled exclusively by the native ACC? If it is controlled by BP, are there parameters that can be adjusted? I always thought there could be a better handling of visible slowdowns beyond the follow distance in the native ACC to alleviate some of...
Despite being ordered back in early December, I just received the Comma 4! For those who didn't know, this is a device you install which runs open source OpenPilot software which offers BlueCruise-like functionality (with some improvements) without the subscription.
I've read all the threads I...
Hey everyone. I'm brand new here and just purchased a new-to-me Mach E GTPE. Really enjoying the car and learning on this forum.
I'm still figuring things out but would love to see what my VIN shows:

Thanks!
