Sortof an introductory post, just joined recently and I'm stoked
We've had a Tesla in the family (not mine) for a while, and it's been great to have a non-gas-consuming vehicle. *MY* vehicle though was an F-150 and while it was incredibly useful, 9/10 of my trips were borrowing the Tesla so that I didn't have to feed that beast even though it was a great vehicle to have.
My partner's mom also had an F-150 though on the property with us, so it was a redundant set of vehicles and I ended up selling my truck to drop the money in savings for an EV of my own. Originally that was going to be Tesla's truck and I was waiting for first-round issues to get sorted out, but I had a hard-stop of 'if it can't do all the truck-stuff I need' and then the MAJOR engineering flaws that prevent it from safely doing the things I need to do with a truck.
So I started looking at the F-150 Lightning, and I gotta say that's an awesome vehicle, but we'd have to trade in my partner's mom's truck to help bring the cost down on it. Which was fine, but then I started thinking about the charging infrastructure; right now (no fault of Ford or EV's in general) it would be a pain in the ass to have to unhook the trailer, charge, then hook-up and leave again. We don't haul all that often so that's not a big deal most of the time but it would be a HUGE deal if/when hauling. So the electric truck is kinda out due to do that.
That left me with getting a daily driver of my own, and while Tesla cars have been fine I have had some really salty moments with the software controlling the car during cruise control, etc. So I wanted to look around, which led to the Mach-E and specifically THIS Mach-E because our driveway is a half mile long bull-rock w/road base on top and tends to make street cars (the Tesla included) scrape the undercarriage.
Went to a dealer over the weekend to see what a Mach-E was like behind the wheel (test drive). It was nice, just a '24 Premium RWD trim but it was enough to really seal the deal. I had already been looking at the GT for the extra range/power but then the sales guy pointed out the Rally, and for the features I had added to the GT it was actually cheaper. Having to wait a couple months for production isn't a bad thing because I can save some more for fun extras to add (floor liners, connectivity package, etc). If anyone has recommendations on an aftermarket vendor to look for stuff to do little details inside I'd appreciate it
With the higher suspension, skid plates, etc, the driveway will be a cakewalk (and it goes ZOOM really nicely as well - always a plus).
