Greetings all! Back in May I purchased the A2Z NACS adapter when they were offering the package with the NACS-J1772 bundle with the 10% discount for Ford users. Well the adapters arrived and the Typhoon adapter didn't work, and was diagnosed by A2Z over the telephone as having a faulty locking mechanism. They promptly sent out a replacement and all is well now.

I was informed today that they do not want the old adapter returned so my question to the group is: Does anyone know if the mechanism can be repaired by, say a handy DIY'er? I hate to just toss it in the trash for recycle.

PS Glad I bought it too seeing as how Ford has delayed my "official" adapter delivery....

I wouldn’t trust a handy man to repair something with that much electricity going thru it. A2Z did away with that locking model and now has a new “pro’ version that they are sending out now.

What @Ravensfan1996 said. Unless your specialty is making sure high voltage equipment is durable and especially safe to handle.

also, why throw it out at all? You could always keep it as a spare, share it with someone else or sell it online. If the NACS rollout actually happens like we heard from industry press reports, these things will be in high demand for a long while.

Just look how long it’s taking Tesla to distribute their adapters to Ford customers alone, and how many of those very customers already decided to pay up and get a third-party variant a bit quicker.

I thought it was defective. Isn't that why it was replaced? For liability reasons, it shouldn't be sold or given to somebody else to use if it is reportedly defective.

Oh defective, thought it was just that the adapter wasn’t locking right and needed break in like many in these forms reported.

Just received my Typhoon Pro, and it feels like a strong, well-built unit.

While the nearest Supercharger is several hundred miles away and I can’t test it yet, but I’m driving from Whitehorse to Vancouver in a couple of weeks, and Ford couldn’t promise I’d have their adapter by then.

I don’t mind paying for this adapter since I’ll use it on this upcoming trip; I can sell it when the Ford one finally arrives.

Yes, you ought to test the adapter, but more importantly check to see if your vehicle is able to charge on the Supercharger network with the Ford app or if you need to download the Tesla app and set up an account there. I could never get my FordPass to recognize Tesla Superchargers, so I do all my charging -- and paying --using the Tesla app.
