Are codes maintained to show if an alignment is needed?

Took my 2022 Select in for the 10,000 mile service today. The advisor said the car was indicating it needed an alignment.

Is this something the car can track, or did he pull a fast one on me?

I can’t speak to codes, but uneven tire wear across the width of the tire might indicate an alignment is needed. The wheel speed/ABS sensor might see a different wheel speed but that an alignment needed as result seems beyond the resolution of the sensor in my mind.

Yeah, I agree that I doubt sensors are going to tell you much about alignment. The need for alignment will be presented in the kind of wear the tires are presenting. A visual inspection will tell you if the tires are under/over-inflated, the wheels are out of balance, the shocks are worn, or if the camber or toe is out of whack. ??

I'm not saying that this is programmed in, but input from the steering wheel position sensor and torque motor combined with images from the camera could be used to determine if an alignment is needed. Some dealers also have quick check machines that will indicate the car is not aligned properly. As already mentioned, reading the tires is the old school method. ?

Well, if he wasn't trying to get an extra $100 out of me, it was something visible to him on his computer screen - he never left his station when he said that to me.

Was it the same station they use to tell you “we’re gonna need it a week to pull the codes”? Lol

No way for the car to determine that on its own. Just rotate the tires and if you observe even wear across the width of the tire then carry on.

Almost 80k miles on my car and still on the factory alignment settings...
