I think it helps with the lack of testing that way. Easier to prove it worked well in the field.

I am a programmer by trade. That isn’t how beta programs work. Beta programs are looking for a diverse type of users. They want people that use the cars in many different ways. But since beta software is buggy, they don’t want so many that a bad update takes down an entire massive group of people. So, they need enough users to get a good sample of the various user types, but the smallest selection possible to minimize risk and cost of remediation.

The problem I see with the EA group is it's not diverse enough with a wide enough target for each group. Say Job1 21's, Job 2 21's, etc any time there was significant hardware changes. They either don't have enough people in the group or don't collect useful feedback (in some form). if there's 1 Job1 21 in the beta group of 50 cars it's no wonder the Job1's keep ended up fairly hosed, for a long time to boot. I've been in software for near 35 years. I know how it should work, but I don't think Ford does.
