I’ve been having wireless CarPlay issues ever since I got all software modules updated at the dealership a month ago. They made sure to install all the latest updates/modules and I confirmed the before and after. That improved my problematic phone-as-key operation… making it work 95% of the time instead of like 20% of the time. However, it broke wireless CarPlay which is intermittent… works on the way to the store, but not on the way back kinda thing. I have not tried rebooting Sync with the Volume Down + Previous Track buttons on the steering wheel, but will give that a go. Thanks all for the info everyone!
I think this is related to the 3.5x Powerup OTA update version of Sync, which has made wireless CarPlay initiation and switching between phones less reliable. When they don't connect, I reboot Sync (hold vol down + next track for 7 sec) and it generally will then cooperate.

yeah the 3.x powerup versions of Sync have some CarPlay wonkiness. My issues are around phone switching (like sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and requires a reboot to pick up the other phone again .... or never, and you have to delete / repair the CarPlay phone entry).

Also, sometimes, Sync isn't providing the EV-specific battery SOC data to CarPlay. Sometimes this happens before you start navigating somewhere with Apple Maps. Other times, you'll be driving and Siri will tell you that "Apple Maps no longer has reliable battery information from your car". When it loses the EV-specific battery infromation, the Mach-E will also fail to show next-turn directions in the IPD display from CarPlay. It seems that a Sync reboot solves this, but it's a flaky problem so every so often randomly this will happen.

I'm hoping Ford's Elves press the right buttons so I can get the newer UI and hopefully some fixes for the poor QA that went into the CarPlay connector for the Sync version that preceeds it.
The issues started for me with the 3.4.x series of updates. I no longer recall which one specifically. I've had the usual CarPlay issues we've gone on ad nauseum about as well as the Apple maps battery problem you reference and the usual "What's CarPlay?" nonsense pretty much every drive one time or another.

The good news is my car is in advanced analytics and has been funneling a metric ton of info about this to Ford (I hope).
