I was happily driving along on the freeway while taking a call. Mid conversation I hear a noise (fssst?) and the center screen goes dark and the phone disconnected from the car. A few seconds later the screen light up and re establishes the call, only to say Sync unavailable and drop me off the car and start playing the radio. All the while the poor guy on the other end of the call is hearing me say bad things to the car since the call never dropped from the phone.

anybody else had anything like this? Any fixes?

Thank you!

Sounds like a Sync overflow. Restarting Sync (volume down and next track buttons held down) should fix that. ??

Sync restart happens several times in both of my Fords. Not much that you can do. The dealership said there was no stored code for screen misbehaving so they had no idea which modules had to be replaced. My MME had several bad pixels so I got a new screen under warranty. I have not had that many sync restarts with the new screen.

Any idea how often a person should do the restart process, or just wait for it to play tricks. It’s a bit alarming, and a little unfortunate that the call doesn’t drop. I may have said some unprofessional things at that moment. ?

It's standard behavior for a call to go to the phone mic/speakers when a bluetooth connection drops, which happens when Sync restarts. That switchover is the phone programming, nothing to do with Sync. Maybe there is a setting somewhere in your phone to hang up a call on loss of bluetooth connection? I've never seen it in several Android and iOS phones, but I've never looked either.

I've had Sync crash maybe 3 times in 3 years of ownership. Turning the car off reboots Sync, so I doubt there will be any benefit in manually rebooting, at least for this issue. I do manually reboot Sync occasionally for various CarPlay connection issues. Rebooting is faster, more reliable, and requires less screen tapping than other recovery methods for that particular glitch.
