Huh, I have a steel garage door too. My phone connects to my wireless network just fine in the driveway. I was concerned about attenuation of the signal at first but the amount of signal attenuation seems to be a non-issue for me. My wireless router is mounted higher than the top of the garage door when it's closed, but the door does impede LoS to the router when I'm in the driveway since my phone is near the steering wheel when I am opening the garage door with it. ?‍
