Hi everyone, so my partner and I recently moved to the DC area (Arlington, VA specifically) from Alabama. This is important because Alabama does not require front license plates so my MME does not have a spot for one. However, since Virginia does require it, I need to go somewhere to get the front of my beautiful car mutilated (drilled) so the plate can be mounted per VA law. Anyone know where the best DMV area dealership is?

Also, I’ve got my 20K service coming up in a few months ish so it’ll be good to know for that also.

Thanks!

Don't drill if you don't have to! Try STO-N-SHO!

I swear by Waldorf Ford down here in Waldorf, MD. Not super-close to Arlington, but I trust them with our Ford fleet.

^^^^^ This, or simply don't mount the front plate.

Welcome to the area!

As someone on this forum will probably say, if you do get pulled over for another infraction, not displaying the front plate can be added on. But drilling three holes is a mutilation of your beautiful front.

Totally up to you of course, but I've had my car in Virginia for over two years now without a front plate. The only place I've had any problem was downtown DC parking. DC has written every state law into their code and actively looks for infractions of non-DC laws -- even if you are otherwise legally parked.

As for the DC area best dealership I can give Sheehy Ford in Springfield, VA a 3.5/5. @21st Century Pony or other northern Virginia members may have suggestions on dealers.

I swear by Malloy Ford (formerly Jerry's Ford for many years) on 6510 Little River Turnpike in northern Alexandria. BTW - their EV tech is also the maintenance shop foreman.

Lindsay Ford in Wheaton on the Maryland side (just North of Silver Spring) is pretty good as well in my experience.

At all costs, STAY AWAY from Koons Ford on Route 50 in Falls Church. Just... believe me.

Thanks for posting this! Recently had a less than stellar experience at Ourisman Ford in Alexandria (2-month-old brand new MME there for a week, didn’t start working on it until day 5, poor communication, etc.) so may try Malloy next time.

I can echo Ourisman is poor with comms. However, it's very convenient for me to drop the car off there and get picked up and return when the car is ready. I'm regularly in the area.

Good to know about Waldorf. Closer but less convenient w/r to getting the car there and back home, then the return trip.

If you don’t mind a bit of a drive west, you could try Ted Britt Chantilly or Fairfax.

Lots of good options for mounting a front plate without drilling holes in the nose.

I use the Craig's Custom Bracket on mine (requires a small modification to avoid errant collision alerts).

That’s actually where we got my car but I was hoping to find one a bit closer to us. If Jerry Ford doesn’t work out the next time something goes wrong, we will definitely go back to Ted Britt.

I got wrapped up in some things through fall and the holidays and didn't get around to doing my 20K mile service until just now. Also had the two recalls to do (the charge port heating software recall and the big HVBJB recall).

Long story short, I had the BEST experience with Malloy Ford in Alexandria. Absolutely 100% best service experience I've had.

I initially was just going to do the 20K mile service and software update recall at this visit, they would order parts, and then do the HVBJB recall later and so I waited at the dealership for that since I didn't know about the concierge service until they told me and at that point I had nowhere I needed to be and had my iPad and headphones with me. They continuously checked in on me, gave me updates, and as luck would have it they happened to have the exact parts needed for the recall in stock.

So, I elected to leave my car there for another two days and take a loaner. Initially the only loaner/rental they had available was an ICE vehicle and I would have to not only go to the gas station but pay for the gas without reimbursement. I haven't been to a gas station in nearly 2 years and especially with all the carjackings and things happening at the gas stations around here--just nope. But the service manager overheard this and he seemed to want to be abundantly cautious (in case the recall work took longer than the two days they anticipated) so he got a demo Mach E off the sales lot and switched out the plates and let me have that for my loaner. I didn't mind charging it up since it's reasonably cheap at my apartment. And not just any Mach-E, he got me a GT Performance Edition. SO. MUCH. FUN. I mean I love my Premium, but this is on another level, I had so much fun!

AND to put the cherry on the cake, they stayed late that first day to get a start on the recall work and not 24 hours later I got a call saying it was done and ready to be picked up! I have been absolutely blown away by this dealership experience. So much better than my previous dealership back in Alabama!

Agree 100%. Stay away from Koons Ford in Falls Church. Their service department fumbled battery repairs covered by warranty. They initially refused to pay for my loaner, which I needed for three weeks. Only after being pressured by Ford corporate did Koons offer to pay for the loaner. Their sales department is also lackluster. I wanted to trade up my '23 MME Select to a '23 MME CA Rt 1. I gave them any and all necessary information via email. They said to come on in and they could definitely accommodate my request. When I got there, they said they couldn't help me and offered absolutely no empathy or alternative options.

I reached out to Ted Britt Ford in Fairfax with the same information. I stopped by a few days later and traded up in 1.5 hours. I love them so far.
