Dent in A-Pillar

Hey Guys. I was driving down the interstate today and a truck in front of me ran over a 2x4 and threw it into my car. It hit the A-pillar pretty hard on the passenger side and left a dent approximately a quarter inch square and maybe 2 or three millimeters deep exactly halfway up.

I'm not familiar with the engineering behind structural integrity , but I do know the A-pillars are pretty important to protect against rollovers, etc.

Does this need attention?

Shape, material strength, and material integrity all play roles in the protective properties of that part of the car. Altering plastic deformations of metal can lead to reductions in material strength and integrity due to the granular structure of the material becoming disarrayed if the “repair” is done incorrectly. If your body repair person is competent and you have a conversation regarding the strength of the repaired area you can likely avoid an excessive weakening of the material at the area of repair.
