No. It uses the same PTC heater that's used to heat the cabin.

It is capable of heating the battery when plugged in or not plugged in.

The high voltage battery is heated and cooled with liquid that circulates through some plates mounted inside the battery pack casing. Heat transfers from the liquid, through the plates and into the cell packs bi-directionally.

The HVB is supposed to heat and cool itself when plugged in.
The HVB should heat or cool itself for scheduled departure times. I believe there is a setting in FordPass to allow departure times to function off plug.
