Hey guys, I know that Florida has some strange laws where we can't purchase extended service plans outside the state. I might have the option of using an out-of-state address. Has anyone tried this? Any issues using an extended warranty from Ford that you purchased out-of-state but tried to use at a Florida Ford dealership?

The dealership knows nothing about where you bought it.

People from Canada have bought US policies. You can easily do what you describe.

I can't speak about extended warranty (ESP) in Florida and not being able to purchase it there.

I looked around and bought Ford extended services plan (ESP) via Ford dealer online. There are several online dealers. Search on the forum and you will find a few threads about it and the various dealers selling Ford ESP. They are all authorized to sell Ford ESP, since they are Ford dealers. They sell it at a lower cost than your local dealer since they do enough volume. I tried and my local dealer was not even close the cost I was quoted, and he gave me a bunch of BS about his cost being a few hundred over my quote. The online dealers’ prices do vary a bit, but only by about $20. When you get a quote, they want to know what state you live in and when you purchase it, you have to provide your address. It is the same Ford ESP you would buy at any dealer and can buy at any dealer, not just the dealer that the car was purchased. Since it is Ford ESP, it is good at any Ford dealer. In a sense, if you lived outside of Florida, bought the insurance, and then moved to Florida, it transfers. Unless Florida has some crazy law that says it cannot.

The one thing I did find in my research was that the non-Ford extended warranty can be troublesome if you pick the wrong company. Again, the forum provided some help. For instance, you have to get pre-authorization, all maintenance has to be by a mechanic, some systems are not covered, etc. I chose not to go that route since the risks were too high.

Florida residents cannot buy the online warranties due to Florida law preventing their sale.

Wow, that really sucks. I find such laws arcane and archaic in this day and age of the internet. I can only speculate that the dealers lobbied to prevent the sales from going elsewhere. Instead of lower their cost and making money by volume sales, they restrict someone from exercising free economy. If the dealers selling on line can sell for low prices, so can the other dealers. In my opinion the best way to tell someone that they do not have good service, not well priced, etc., is to take your business elsewhere. Let your wallet to do the talking

Did you miss the "FLOHR-EH-DUH" part?

While your argument is clear, logical, and concise, "FLORH-EH-DUH". ;)
