Hello, more on this topic. My MY23 also only locks the cable during L2 charging without any issues. But it only locks when power is actually being supplied to the car. That is, in my garage, I only have current available from 10 PM to 7 AM, and if I plug in the cable before that, it doesn’t lock, which means that any neighbor or someone else could even steal the cable without any problem (because my wallbox also doesn’t lock it). The cable only locks when it receives power and starts charging.
My wife swears that the last time she plugged in the cable and there was no current in the wallbox yet, she heard the charging port lock the cable and says she had to press the unlock button to remove it. Is that possible? Has anyone noticed this behavior? I’ve never been able to reproduce it.
My Mazda MX-30 had several options, including one that would lock the cable as soon as it was plugged into the socket (even without power). Could Ford be considering this solution? I think it would be very useful for anyone charging their car in a shared garage, without worrying that someone might remove or steal the cable.
