I am interested to know if anyone on the forum has experience charging at a DC fast charger that was manufactured by Freewiretech?

Freewiretech chargers are different in that they are very big batteries that are charged over a period of time at a speed similar to a level 2 charger, when there is not a vehicle charging from it. When you drive up to the charger it essentially acts as a big jumper cable from a charged battery to a discharged battery.

This technology looks very promising for areas of the country where EV penetration is very low. It allows a utility to provide a level 3 charging experience (How good?) without spending a lot on electric distribution infrastructure.

Anyone out there?

It’s a cool idea for sure. And could be a good sidestep to demand surcharges that make L3 stations hard to be profitable.

The big downside I see is that for high traffic areas, the battery would take anywhere from 5-15x the time spent L3 charging to re-energize the battery using L2 for the next person. It would either have to be a station with a lot of large batteries, or one that is only used a couple of times per day.
Also, the duty cycle on such a battery would mean it needed to be replaced far sooner than a car battery, which adds to the expense of operating such a facility.

There are a few videos of folks with Lightnings who have used them. They are great if you get there when they're charged. Unfortunately, if you get their right after someone has emptied the Freewire's battery into their car, your charging experience will be very slow.
