Heated windshield for wipers not working

Hi, I have a 2021 Mach E Premium AWD extended range. I purchased the car used from a dealership with a cracked windshield, which they replaced before delivery. In theory, my car should have the windshield wiper deicer (as indicated on the window sticker and the windshield). However, I find my wipers are very often coated with ice and do not wipe well, even if I run a schedule battery and cabin precondition when I am parked outside (I live in Quebec with some nice and cold winters). Does anyone have any tips on what I can try or is this just « standard », or is there a specific way to activate them? Thanks for any insight !

Hit Max defrost, wait a couple minutes, and feel the glass where the wipers sit. It should be noticeably warmer. I have a photo of it in my thermography topic.

@Mach-Lee, are you indicating it's just the defroster blower that is de-icing and not something built-in to the windshield or wiper itself?

Does it require defrost on Hi or does it come on when the rear window and side mirror heat is selected? If the wiper heat doesn't come on with the latter, Ford should make that change to their software.

Ah ok. Good to know. I had icing problems when driving last Monday in icy conditions. I found that the windshield was icing up in the middle and first found that max defrost would melt it, but it was terribly loud. I eventually figured out I could just leave the HVAC system on lowest Auto setting with temperature set to 75F with the defrost vents enabled. That kept the ice clear.

I did end up with some ice buildup on the wiper frames themselves that never cleared away. It was annoying because when the wipers reached the max arc and switched directions, the ice would flop and tap the windshield so I had a repeated annoying clicking noise.

Wiper heater and mirrors are on in auto for me, no defrost selection needed.

Thanks for the tips! Turns out, for me, I also need to turn on the rear windshield heater. I just spotted it hidden in the manual.
