I wanted a way to carry four snowboards in the back without just stacking them on top of each other; I don’t want the boards to scratch each other and don’t want to hear them rattling the whole drive. I looked into making something freestanding, before realizing that a piece of two-by fits snugly behind the rear seats with the trunk floor in the upper position.

This is mostly a proof of concept at this point made with some scraps I had on hand, but it works great!

This is a 2x6 pushed down as far as it goes, about an inch is exposed. Then I screwed in some 2x2s to act as bookends to support each snowboard. I made it so each of the outer slots can hold one board, and the middle slot is wide enough to hold two boards base-to-base.

The seats can still be raised or lowered with no issues with it in place.

At some point I may use nicer wood, wrap it in carpet, or maybe use a 2x12 and cut slots right into it. But for now, it’s good enough.
