I honestly cannot believe that half the cost of an EV charging station is measures to keep us safe! Now the question that the article does not answer is: What retrofits would be required to implement this solution?

Thank you for sharing this article. Interesting stuff indeed. I shared the article with an electrical engineer friend of my who also owns an EV to get his take.
If what the author proposes is accurate and technically feasible, implementing on the DCFC side of thing would seem fairly straightforward since it wouldn't require changes in the EV. For level 2 charging however, it would require an entirely new charging standard since it would be a lot of the isolation onus would be put onto the EVSE instead of the EV's OBC. But if there is a way to handle that transition, it could be a good thing.
Edit: my EE friend notes that the infrastructure costs of a DCFC station are quite substantial, so reducing the service equipment cost wouldn’t necessarily be sufficient to move the needle on a big way.
