I have been trying to figure out the logic used to turn the "walk up" lights on when I approach my car. I am not talking about the pony puddle light. I am talking about the lights that sometimes come on when I walk up to my car. I have tried to figure this out and do not know what to do so that they come on every time I get close to my car.

I am not interested in the puddle light? I am interested in other exterior lights coming on when I approach.

Right now they come on some of the time when I approach my car. I want them to come every time I approach my car.

Does the car need to be locked or unlocked for them to work?
Do I need to have the PAAK active?
Is there a control in settings that needs to be set?
Does this only work with the FOB?

Can anyone tell me what I need to do so that they are active all the time?

The car will only give you the welcome lighting the first couple times it senses your key between drives, PAAK or fob. If you've tripped the lights a couple times since you parked, they won't come on when you go to use it.

Do you notice them not working in the same places more often than when you're out and about in random places? Something like, they often don't come on at home, but pretty much always come on when you're coming out of the grocery store?

If you notice the problem happens somewhere consistently it could be that you've hit the logic limit so to speak. Let's say the car is in your driveway, and you're moving around inside your house, out of view of your car. As you walk around your house the car senses your PAAK and lights up, then it happens again, but you don't know it's happenig since you can't see the car. Then you decide to go out for a drive, but the lights don't come on when you go out to the car.
