I have not long got my Mustang Mach E 21 plate and I love it. However I cant seem to get the octopus intelligent go to actually smart charge. Everytime I plug my car into my home charger the car starts charging automatically, I have checked and there's no charging schedules set up on either the fordpass app or the Zappi charger app. I have to go into the fordpass app and stop the charge and then sometimes it will charge at the offpeal times and sometimes it wont charge at all and other times it just randomly starts charging again at peak times costing me a fortune. A y advice would be amazing because I'm about pulling my hair out here.

I think it would be best to speak to Octopus about this issue. I don't think the Zappi is compatible with Octopus Intelligent Go which could be the reason it isn't working. According to their website, Zappi isn't listed

The Mach-e does not play well with Octopus or others like it. My electric provider used a similar to track the car for off peak charging. Those sites constantly ping the car for status so Ford blocked 3rd parties like that. Its been over a year and my car or any Ford no longer is compatible with the program.

I just programed charging times in the car, so weekdays it only charges 9pm-11am the next day, then I get the discount. I also could use a smart charger to control charging times.

My Chevy Bolt works fine with our provider program.

I don't wish to sound condescending, but have you registered your car with Octopus. It sounds to me as if you are setting charge times on your cars system and/or on your Zappi. Any smart charge times will not show up on your FordPass app. You have to have the Octopus App on your phone linked to your account. Any smart charge sessions will be shown on there. I don't have a wall box to charge my car but use the Variopower box that came with the car linked to a 32Amp Command socket. Because of this I had to give Octopus permission to contact Ford to gain access to my car via the FP app. I have to clear all charge settings for home then plug in my car. Octopus will then communicate with my car and set up a charging schedule. The car will charge momentarily while the communication between it and Octopus takes place. Usually this lasts about 10-15 seconds.
Another issue that I encounter sometimes is that depending on which way the wind is blowing and what satellites the car talks to depends on where I am. I live at No. 4 which where Octopus say is my home. They say that the intelligent charge ONLY works when the car is at home. Sometimes my car says it is at No. 6 or No. 3 even when it is in my garage. I have to check the location on the FP app to make sure the car says I at No.4 before I plug in.

Hi. I have Octopus Intelligent Go, and charge two cars off it (MME ER AWD and Smart #1 Brabus). Both work absolutely fine. Neither car has any time schedule at all in its own settings, and simply charges whenever either car is plugged in and Intelligent Go sends juice.

Hades 0203 is quite right, you need to tell Octupus what your car is, and what % SOC you want. That enables it to work out your scheduling.

Other than that, sit back and watch. I find we get charge at off-peak rates often throughout the day, so its a great solution especially if you want some cheap charge during the day.

What charger do you have because this is not my experience at all im having all manor of issues charging and now Octopus are telling me i need to set a charging schedules through the myenergi app in order for the integration with the octopus app to work and to charge at the off peak times (even during the day) allegedly the octopus app will "override" the myenergi app if it identifies points during the day where thr car can charge at the lower rate of 7p.

Honestly I dont know what to do or believe anymore!

Hi there. Apologies, I meant to say portlandg was right!

My understanding is that you only want a schedule in the MyEnergi charger if you are on the basic Octopus Go tarriff, which has a fixed set of off-peak hours. Like a timer on an old Economy 7 setup.

If you are on Octopus Intelligent Go tarriff, then the only "device" which controls the timing of charging is the Octopus Intelligent Go app itself. Everything else is effecively a "dumb" slave to that app, and there should not be any schedules in either the charger or the car(s).

Intelligent Go needs to control your charger's output status, because this Octopus tarriff uses surplus power off the National Grid, which can happen any time 24/7 (obvs if your car is plugged in).

If I'm planning to charge overnight, I'll often plug in at maybe 6pm, and am often halfway fully charged before the standard off-peak rates even start.

I have found the Octopus phone advisers well informed and knowledgeable (actually like the adverts!)

I have a MyEnergi Zappi charger, installed March 2024.

For info, my MME's "Home location" is simply set to charge 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The car just waits to get some juice.

Hope you get sorted.

Hi,
I have been with Octopus Intelligent Go for a whole year now. I had them install a Ohme Pro charger and my Mach E is registered with them. I did have a few annoying niggles early on which turned out to be caused by some iPhone settings in Safari. Since then, everything works as expected. I would recommend talking to Octopus.

Regards
John
