Hey @Mach1E, seems I've pushed your buttons. Not my intentions. But your response is alarming.

If I understand correctly, you think rich means billionaire and you believe billionaires are paying fair taxes. And you think that folks who leverage the tax credit, - for all you know, 100% within the IRS guidelines - are guilty of fraud?

I'm not sure I can agree with you on this stuff.
Not even remotely close.

YOUR definition of “the rich” applies to billionaires, and they aren’t the ones buying Mach Es. Your direct quote: “the rich (who can all aford this car) don't pay much in taxes!”

These are talking points describing billionaires. Not exactly the normal mach E buyer.

If you’ve spent much time here, you’d realize that “the ones that can afford the Mach E” almost always get the tax credit. Why? They pay their fair share. The rare people here who don’t? Mostly retirees. Those who paid their fair share for decades while working.

And if your friend bought, as you said, 2 Mach Es per year to get the credit and resell them……

Yeah, that’s tax fraud. It’s literally the one thing the law says NOT to do.

Did this trigger me a little? Yeah. Because you basically called everyone here “the rich” and stated we aren’t paying our fair share, then defend your friend who’s possibly committing tax fraud in the same post.

Man, pardon me for saying, but I think you're getting worked up over nothing. And maybe putting some words in my mouth (un-cool, man.)
  • You introduced "Billionaire", not my term. Not my definition of anything.
  • I suggested most folks buying this car probably qualify for the credit. I didn't suggest they avoided taxes. Surely didn't call users on this forum "rich" or crooks. Not sure how you concluded that. Go read the thread.
  • High resell the last few years has allowed my friend to trade up a couple times each year, minimizing cost of ownership. Kudos to him, but not kind to call him a fraud.
I wish I could just buy you a beer and put this silly debate to sleep.

Fair enough. I’ll just have to give you the benefit of the doubt that when you said “the rich (who can all aford this car) don't pay much in taxes!” That I read it wrong.

I assumed you were referring to the people here who bought the car. But if you were labelling an entirely off topic group, my bad.

And the rich people underpaying taxes and not paying “fair share,” usually are words used to describe the billionaires. But again, if that’s not who you were talking about, my bad again.

I’m extra sensitive today about taxes since we are working on them today and owe an ADDITIONAL $14k! ?‍♂

On a related note, this chart of income vs taxes for top 1%, 5%, etc seems like our progressive tax system is working as intended (but yeah, I don’t think billionaires pay enough, but they’re the top .0001%). If I were king, all income would be taxed the same.

Sorry if I misled on any of this, more so for your tax bill! We got a refund this year, first time in twenty years maybe.

And you got my vote for King! ?

Yes, I'm not a tax expert, but my understanding is now the MachE fits the category to get a tax break.
Full credit through 4/17/23, half credit 4/18/23 forward.

So did others receive a form from their dealer to get the tax credit? I did not and don't want to run into trouble next year when I file my taxes.

Out here in CA, no paperwork in 2021 from my dealer for the tax credit. It was strictly handled via the VIN when I filed my taxes last year. ?‍♂?

The tax code has changed for 2023, and the dealers do not have the forms we should be getting. I also do not want to run into any issues with the $7,500 I qualify for.
I even opened a ticket with Ford, and they sent me a battery capacity sheet.

Love this photo! If Ford ever builds and ships, I'll try to snap a similar one of our Pudelpointers enjoying the frunk!
