2024 Mach E Select AWD
Hey all, i had a weird issue with my 2024 Select LFP the other day while travelling to a ski hill. Arrived with 16% battery (the last 10min was constant uphill and may have been tough on the battery) and while navigating around the parking lot (going into Reverse then Drive) the car threw a Powertrain Fault error and went into limp mode. Luckily I was able to find and connect to a tesla destination L2 and got the car back to 90% before it was time to drive home later that day. Everything works fine now (limp mode went away after turning it back on post charge) except I have a "service vehicle soon" code to clear. I don't think i want to bother going to the dealer for this since it seems like a one-off thing and not a sign of any real problem.

I want to buy a quality Bluetooth obd2 scanner that will also connect to Forscan and allow me to clear the error code. I will likely always leave it plugged in (the models listed below have battery drain protection) to have peace of mind that I can monitor the 12v and keep an eye on battery temps to decide if i should delay charging in the coldest of winter and hottest of summer days. I've used Forscan before on my 2017 Focus (cheap usb adapter) and plan to poke around on the MachE.

I realize the OBDLink MX+ is the goat but at 209$ i don't know if i want to drop that much money.

Below is a screen shot and available option that are in my opinion the best runner up options for the money. these are CAD$ prices.

I'm asking to help identify which features make the most sense for me, for example, the "FS" model supports FEPS Programming Voltage(FORD) where the others do not. Is this something I will find handy? Also the MS and FS both support a much higher comm rate vs the MC+.

Edit, are these bluetooth version euqually as capable as the USB counterparts? Will their be Forscan limitations because of the Bluetooth connection vs usb?

I have the green one but I don't use ForScan. it seems to work just fine and I leave it plugged in. Onetime it did drain my battery and I got an alert on FordPass because I didn't disconnect it.

You don't need Forscan to clear the code, the free CarScanner app allows to see and clear the error codes.
(going into Reverse then Drive) the car threw a Powertrain Fault error and went into limp mode.
I recently had the same problem and the car started accelerating normally after restart, without being charged. I had to clear the error codes to get rid of "Service Vehicle Soon" message.

Thanks to both,

yeah i ended up getting Car Scanner Pro, it is surprisingly powerful. I am enjoy the detailed car stats directly on the car's main display.

I can confirm the FS model works very well, connects fast and goes into a sleep mode and doesn't drain the 12v. I have done some re-programming with Forscan using a windows laptop as well. Being able to monitor battery temp i feel is a no brainer. ICE cars have a engine temp gauge, why hide this important detail on EV's?

I've had the battery start at below 0c on cold days where it was parked outside. Based on everything I've read about batteries and cold weather you really want to take it easy when its that cold. Out of the box the car doesn't provide any feedback about being careful with accel/decel when the battery is that cold. Having the power meter active at least gives you a rough idea based on how many jail bars their are to judge what state the powertrain is in.

I used a Scangauge for monitoring battery temps on my I-Pace. Scangauge worked with me to be able to read the different points I wanted to monitor due the Jags bad battery. Once Jag does my buyback, I will move the Scangauge to my new Rally and start figuring out the points I want to monitor and talk to Scangauge again. 1st picture in my 2012 Focus Electric. 2nd is the Jag.

I’m pretty sure the answer to this is obvious but here goes
I’ve just got a new to me MME
I have a veepeak blue tooth connector. I attached it and then opened car scanner I looked at that briefly and then Whilst that was open I also opened another app OBD fusion

then I got a big error, « drive train failed « (I think). And it said pull over.
I was stationary , closed apps pulled out dongle and went to google what was wrong! After waiting 15 minutes it was all back to normal.
My question is - was it my stupidly having 2 apps open that caused the issue or could it be the dongle. I’m worried to try again but use that dongle all the time in other cars with obdfusion No problem

Any suggestions
