I get free charging at work but I’d like to track my charging at home. I currently use the Ford mobile charger and only have the charge logs available. I’d like to estimate my kW added. I know you can do a rough estimate with the percentage added from the log. If I was to get an ODB scanner, can I track kW added during charging with the car scanner app? I don’t want to keep the odb connected at all times as it will drain the battery. Is this data stored and can it be accessed later or does the odb scanner only see current data when it’s connected?

The OBD will only report live data, but you can leave a phone to record it if you want to log history I guess. Most OBD2 apps support logging.

I use this scanner for reading car data, cheap and it works: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XGB4873
Beware: you can't make Forscan changes with this adapter. You'll need a wired USB one for that.

I recommend this app to connect to it as it has most every parameter you'd want out of the box:

If you're more advanced and know what PIDs you want to use, then use Torque.

Cheap adapters may not work, but it doesn’t have to be wired. I use an OBDLink MX+ over Bluetooth with FORScan and it works fine.

If you have some sort of home automation systems (e.g. Home Assistant), there is an addon for FordPass. I'm sure you could use it to track your charging activity...
This is the addon i am using: https://github.com/itchannel/fordpass-ha

Thank you. I do have a Raspberry Pi connected at home as a homebridge for Apple Homekit. I'll take a look and see how this works. That would be great if I can get it connected to my FordPass for easy automation.

I'm not sure what the OBD scanner can read with the car 'off' and/or if it keeps modules awake when the car is off. I've been cautioned that it can result in a power drain.

I don't leave my OBD scanner connected. I connect it only when there is something I want to check.
