Did you clean the 3 week old soaked in and stuck bugs off with a pressure washer? If so what nozzle, psi and how? Bugs are bad for paint.

oh no, I’m already an OCD person because of this car (my fault haha) so I always clean up the bug residues within a day or two. Maybe 3. If Ford paint can't survive that, oh well. My 9-yr old Impreza still has impressive paint - bugs, pressure washer, PA winters notwithstanding. And i never had this kind of issue ever.

I'm happy that they did good by you. I just don't appreciate being given the run-around without any clarity as to how they plan to resolve the issue. As it stands now, I'm supposed to work with a service advisor, who was already told by Ford Claims that they won't cover it. I will wait for Ford to do good by me as even with this issue, I still talk positively about the product with my friends.
Beware the service advisor's, for the truth, they doth not always speaketh, nor knoweth.

See what happens with the guys in the post.

Would not worry too much about it is just a bit of missing paint. The washing with a pressure washers is in your manual. You mentioned it is your first and yes leaving bugs and bug guts on unprotected paint for an extended period of time can be an issue. You should wax or protect as soon as possible if not already done. Not trying to make you loose sleep I put a small dent in mine with the charging port door. Be happy that your christening is over and it was minor. I think Ford will help you out they have been good here so far.

Man this is disturbing. I noticed very small flecks of paint off my 4 week old shadow black, on the hood. two small spots, pixel size—but definitely lost or bad paint, it’s white underneath. Only used a garden hose to rinse it off a few times, so no high pressure here. I’m the only one who would notice, assuming it doesn’t get worse. Will bring it up at next dealer visit in a few weeks.

Definitely. This is evident of quality issues that Ford needs to fix in their assembly line AND retroactively for us - rather than acting like this issue does not exist. Ford Paint Issues are real - google F-150 and the new Bronco - it's all over the place. We need to have everyone having paint issues to bring this up now so Ford will do the right thing. I'm off to a THIRD dealer in an hour per the advise of their own Customer Service Specialist - like getting a second opinion. Which is fine - but they should CALL the person who looked at my case and not just rely on a picture and conclude that a foreign object caused the paint to peel. #sad

UPDATE: the second Ford dealer in my area got an approval from Ford to cover the following under warranty:

1. Front bumper where there are evidences of peeling. I was advised that they will take out the entire bumper assembly, sand and repaint the affected areas and then repaint.

2. Driver side door 'dot' just below the window trim - they will disassemble the door and do the repair.

I'm good with item 1. But I'm not sure about number 2 as it is not noticeable and a simple 'pen' paint repair might be better to do than disassemble the entire door, including the inside trim, as i think that's too much and I will be risking a near perfect (or undisturbed factory door) to address something I probably won't care too much about if covered by a pen paint. Ford will provide a rental for the 3 days they have the car, and reapply the Ford SurfaceProtect product on the repaired areas after 90 days.

Thoughts?

Yep. I'll probably ask them to give me touch up paint - or for them to just do a touch up - on the door area and avoid all the hassle. Still not happy that a brand new car has to go through this...

Nozzle and PSI? Seriously? Are you sure you didn’t forget to add a ? there? The Mustang Mach E isn’t some limited run Italian Exotic hyper-car that is trailered from a class 10,000 clean room “garage” to Pebble beach, then back to the clean room, where an army of factory techs disassemble it and polish every surface with a-tips soaked in holy water blessed personally by Pope Francis!
If the car can’t go through an automatic car wash without suffering paint damage, then Ford motor company screwed up!
Anyone remember the Tanner Faust commercials for the Ford Taurus, where they drove both the Taurus and a Lexus behind a dump truck leaking rocks and the Lexus paint was ruined and the Taurus paint was fine?

The guy has a point though - the manual does say 40 degree at at least 1 foot distance at an angle (i think) at no more than 2,000 PSI. These are reasonable asks but even with these I’m pretty sure the paint will peel right away underneath the headlight cluster because that was peeling already. Either way - Fore Paint Peeling is a thing. So I’m glad Ford saw the light.

So yes - this isn’t an exotic even if I’d like to think so (it’s still rare in many areas) and it should survive car washes and pressure washers even outside the required specs. My 9 year old Subaru of half the price and not a luxo car quality survived even an accidental 25 degree nozzle - all scratches and peels on it was due to rocks and other foreign objects. So I expect better quality from a car that cost me twice as much!

Treat your machines however you want. Me I am cheap and like things to last but some trade them out every 3 years. Different strokes and neither is right and/or wrong. You want to know what Ford recommends as noted it is in the manual. For me the MME is better than any ICE pos in any garage or not. Freedom 50's baby.

Actually, I do pamper my car. Believe it or not, the name of the car wash it goes to is “The Car Spa”, which is the place that details Ferraris, Maserati’s, Audis, BMWs, Volvos, and Tesla’s (and they despise Tesla’s - they tell me they’re crap in terms of fit and finish) for delivery. I’ve been using them for years. You’ll see everything from from older Subarus to Bentlys there ?

Update: I took in my MME today to LB Smith Ford in Lemoyne, PA. They were able to get a warranty claim approved for the bumper and a small dot under the window sill of the front door, but I opted to have just the bumper repainted and they will just do a paint touchup on the door. Was told it will take 2-3 days, and I got a White 2021 Explorer, which I thought I'd like but it's light years behind the MME, as a loaner. Let's see how this goes...
