24-PU0102-CHG-SUFX OTA update took place last night on my 23 Premium Extended Range. Started the car this AM to two faults: “Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power” and “Electric Powertrain Fault”.

Car driving normally but acceleration slows drastically after initial throttle tip in. Get red ring when I try to charge.

Dealer has me coming in on Wednesday to check things out. Says this sometimes happens when update doesn’t load properly. Says the timing isn’t coincidental with the OTA update, which ostensibly was related to charging and diagnostics.

I’m going in Wednesday but has anyone else had this happen? Is this going to result in some sort of massive repair that keeps me out of the car for a bit?

No not here, but a good idea about taking to the dealer /service centre I’d say.

After a month if ownership of a new 2023 MME Select, I was seeing many odd & inconsistent bugs. Now at the service centre, turns out that the car needed SIXTEEN sw updates.

Sloppy, eh? Begs the question why none of this was taken care of somewhere in the chain pre-delivery.

I had the exact same problem a week after buying my 2023 model a month ago even though the dealer had done all the available updates. It was a Software problem & another 4 updates had to be done. These are no OTA updates. It appears that when they (the dealer does an update) after a few days the system then checks & makes other software updates available .

Dealers don’t get paid to do updates unless the customer or Ford pays them for the time. Ford isn’t going to pay for any update that is not going to fix a specific problem that is covered by a Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP), Technical Service Bulletin (TSB), or warranty for something that’s broken. Depending on which module(s) need to be updated there could be many hours spent (for instance an IPMA update can take 4-5 hours and that’s just one module; the car has dozens). None of us really like it, but unless you’re going to invest in the equipment to DIY you’re stuck either paying the dealer or waiting on OTAs. ??

In my case, this required three days at the service centre to install 16 updates on a one month old 2023 MME.
This was done for free, and in some regions like Australia and New Zealand, there are (possibly sensibly) no OTA updates & they must be done at the dealers. Not sure of the situation in say Sweden or the UK.

Yeah, but shouldn't Ford be shipping new cars with a rock-solid set of software straight from the factory? Seems like they're begging for trouble if they routinely ship cars - electric or gas - that are subject to breakdown or a bunch of bugs in the first month of ownership. It's not like Mach-E is a brand new model anymore. It needs to mature at some point.

Update!

Diagnostic shows two failed modules.

- a battery module cell is “low”
- the coolant plate module

Their words not mine.

Says battery needs to be dropped to fix.
Parts come in 2-3 days and repaired same day.

Just had this happen today. The latest update is the same as OP but it was completed on Aug 5th and the car has been driven many times since then with no issues until this morning. We've had our 2023 Premium AWD extended range since Aug 2023.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

Update again.
Replaced the battery modules and car worked perfectly.

Got the same errors on the weekend…but this time the car allowed me to charge it.

Monday morning I start the car and the error messages are gone.

sigh.

Back to dealer tomorrow for another diagnostic. I don’t feel reassured.

Update on the update.

They ran a scan. Nothing popped up. All batteries at great charge levels and no issues anywhere. They surmise it could have been a temporary fault caused by the recent OTA not loading properly or something else.

Not sure how much of their explanation is accurate. Car is “healthy” again and no codes thrown.
