Just got back from a short road trip, about 200 miles each way. Did two fast charges, and used a couple Lv 2 chargers. Got home and my preferred charge times are not working (they did before). I have it set to charge between 1am-7am to take advantage of a .07¢/kwh time of use tariff. It starts charging as soon as I plug in. I’ve reset my home charge location, reset the charge times, etc. I have a JuiceBox charger for what it’s worth. Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

That usually means the vehicle will not be able to charge completely in the 6 hour window, so it will start immediately to be sure it's ready by 7AM.

To avoid this, you should extend your charge window so it has enough time to charge.

Exactly right. Took me a moment to figure that as well. Now I just set the charge 2 hrs past my overnight off-peak times, or if looking for a fixed departure time then earlier. Big battery, more juice.

Alternately: charge from a higher SoC; or use the wallbox scheduler instead of the car’s.

Thanks! I’ll try these. Last night I set the JuiceBox “smart settings” instead and it worked. Although, I will say. I had 66% SOC last night when I got home and same thing happened again.

Occasionally the charge window settings get corrupted - usually due to an update. If you are sure the charge event should fit in your charge window and it still starts when you plug it in outside of the window, try deleting your charge location and recreating it.

Also, check that your EVSE is in fact putting out the proper power in your Fordpass app. In some cases, if the EVSE internal power contacts begin to fail, they will derate themselves due to heat. Ford Mobile Charge is known to do this.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Preferred Charge Time Not Working IMG_2171
Thanks @Adventureboy Here is the charge curve from last night. It took 2 hours to start charging at ~9.5kW. Is that what you are talking about. This is with setting the charge time on the charger. Thanks for all the help on this! Also, should note I used an EA fast charger on my way home and had an issue. It charged for a minute and then said it was complete. It did this twice and then moved to a different charger and it worked great. I’m new to the Mach E, so I appreciate all the help!

It looks like it started charging immediately when you plugged it in just for a short while but less than 2kw. Then it shuts off and waits for your charge window. This is common.

Your charge ramp-up seems slow. It looks like the ramp-up to 9.5kw took a few hours on your graph. Mine usually ramps up to full power in 5 minutes (my Emporia, Grizzl-E and portable all ramp up in minutes).
  1. Do you have any settings on the Juicebox limiting full power based on your overall power usage? If so, this may be your issue since the Juicebox may be telling the car it can only give 2kw when you plug it in.
  2. Also, make sure your charge contacts on the MME and the EVSE are clean. You can find multiple posts on this forum on cleaning the MME port pins and charge gun. DO NOT LUBRICATE the pins or gun - they need to stay clean and grease-free. I use Qtips and light solvent like rubbing alcohol then blow dry with my air gun. The EVSE doesn't provide power to the gun until it communicates with the car but just to be safe, unplug or turn off the breaker before cleaning the gun.
  3. If you continue to see slower ramp up times, check on a different EVSE and see if it does the same thing (maybe spend 5 minutes at the Ford dealer plugged in to see if it ramps to full power). If it does the slow ramp-up on other EVSEs, you may need to get the dealer to look at the car. If not, your EVSE may be struggling internally and you'll need to troubleshoot it.

That is quite unusual, the ramp up to full power should take seconds, not hours. Something is up with the EVSE or the software in the car.
