If it was a quad motor he backed off. My quad motor Rivian absolutely destroys my Mach e gt performance, even in normal mode. All the way to 110mph the top speed of the Rivian. The 80-110mph is sooooooo much faster than the mache it’s not even funny.
Honestly the Rivian is TOO overpowered. I can slide into another lane if I hammer the accelerator pedal on a left turn (I hit 45-60mph in 2-3 seconds). The loss of traction (due to the weight) will get many folks in serious trouble.

Does the Rivian lose traction when accelerating?

Or are you saying, when you floor it while turning?

Because that’s a bad idea in pretty much ANY car. Don’t need to be overpowered to get yourself in trouble doing that.

Mach-E GTPE with the MagneRide and wide sticky tires had traction up the wazoo. You are get yourself in serious trouble with the immense power of the Rivian and possibly undersized tires.

My GTPE spins the tires if I floor it at any speed under 30 mph. I definitely don’t recommend doing it while turning.

But both of these vehicles are AWD. As far as performance vehicles go, both have way more traction than any decently powered rwd vehicle.

Their heavy weight also helps with traction.

Weight is the enemy of all cars. I never had traction issues on the GTPE.... when you drive it hard the ABS brakes chatter like toy teeth. If you turn traction control off you can slide out the rear.

The R1S is frankly dangerous at high speeds with that weight (7000lbs) and tires. It's faster than a GTPE, weighs 2000 more lbs, and has sh*ttier tires.

Makes me understand why the 1000 hp, 9000 lb Hummer has a top speed of 106.

Got to ride in an R1S quad motor finally.

Off the line seems very similar to my GTPE. Once you get past about 40 mph it keeps pulling harder than us.

It’s also not as fast if you’re not in sport mode. That’s still my theory for the OPs race.

All purpose mode reduces power by 15%-

https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/mode-power-levels.8634/

Riding in the R1S it makes sense you would use that mode the most as sport lowers you and stiffens the suspension.

Another theory is it may have been the less powerful dual motor, but not sure if those are on the road yet.

OP also could have gotten the jump on him like then model Y in this video-
