I guess we don’t have just a general talk about something topic area so I’m just gonna post this here. This is a little bit of a mess. At least one or two of these cars instead of honking, they should yell out “ I’m walking here”!

I work in this AV industry and I even found this quite comical. Hard problems to solve for sure. Just shows how we take human perception and decision making for granted when trying to translate all that into code and try to operate as efficient as humans.

Software engineers just recently added the "honk to avoid low speed collisions" feature which of course blew up spectacularly. Yet another example of testing new software in production.

I still fail to see how the billions of dollars being spent on this technology is going to pay off in any meaningful way. The present value of the money already spent will never be recouped, and I don’t see people being willing to spend what it will take to get reasonable ROE’s on this expense.
