Stupid question alert: on-screen tiles

I've owned my MME for four plus years now, you'd think I'd have figured this out by now, but how can I get rid of the APP tiles across the bottom of the center console screen when I no longer need them taking up space? Example - I pop open Tire Pressure to see what the status is, but when I close the app it simply collapses to a tile at the bottom row and takes up screen space. I want it gone when I'm done. Is there a way to do this that I have missed?
